So, why are we in prison this time?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:58 pm

You should be on a prison transport traveling from winterhold to solitude by ship, when a storm causes you to wash ashore. THe captain of the ship is alive as well, and tells you your crimes will be forgiven if you give a note to the captain of the guard in solitude.

And thus your adventure begins.

You could be a passenger.... but leave it ambiguous so the player can think of themselves as a freed prisoner or not.

Hmm. Perhaps we are fleeing after a battle, mugged and with only incomplete memories about general things.
Or more likely we wake up in some prison with no recollection of how and when we got in there.

For constant threats of violence against anyone visible to the naked eye..... Even aimed at oneself when facing a reflective surface such as a mirror or a window.

For walking into 'Divine Elegance' and telling that dried up old cow that you're going to reopen the gates to oblivion just for her.....and her useless stock.

Someone else committed a crime, but you felt sorry for him, and told the guards, "Yes...I admit the deed." Next thing you know...you are in the slammer again...

You were talked into joining an illegal mudcrab fighting ring by Michael Vick (spelling?) and got ratted out along with the rest of the ring after he was picked up for crab abuse.

The starter dungeon is just the PC giving a half-ass apology, after which you're let back into the NFL, and dragons attack.

it would be nice to have a differernt type of start for a change, how about waking up in a tavern with amnesia? some guy comes up and says he pulled you out of a snow storm?

Bethesda should get creative with the start to this new game.

^ I like that one. We have to get used to the idea of amnesia because of the way TES is designed (which I like), but the prison shouldn't be visited again.

A variation of prison could be being imprisoned by a necromancer of sorts, meaning you have to escape and fight the undead to get back out into the real world.

Alternatively, the game could start with the player opening his/her/its eyes and being buried by an avalanche (valid excuse for amnesia). You have an out-of-body vision (that would allows the game to describe the basic setting etc) and then the game goes from there.

I'd actually enjoy seeing, from a first person point of view, your character falling through the ice of a frozen lake, after which you mysteriously wake up in the streets of a nearby town, with concerned guards (they came and pulled you out) asking you who you are, after which you do the character-gen, ect..

EDIT: spelling.

Something totally original..... start out as a bum wandering the streets and you see a scuffle that leaves a guard dying and when you approach his limp body he tells you something important........ next thing you know you go from rags to ZOMG DRAGONS!

I was rather fond of how the introduction to New Vegas was done. I believe someone already suggested a variation of this with the tavern beginning and being pulled out of a snow storm.

Or perhaps they could give the game an exciting beginning where you're being interrogated by bandits who ambushed you on the road (possibly tied to the rest of the game or possibly not) and then you're able to choose whether you sneak away or fight your way out. This method of escape along with the interrogation could give insight into the player (the character creation and all).

I don't know; maybe it's just me but I like a beginning that gets me moving from the start.

You could be a runner for the Black Horse Courier, but get taken by a couple Mongoloid thugs and a guy in a flashy outfit who puts a crossbow bolt in your head then buries in you in a shallow grave outside of Clearsprings.......
