So, why are we in prison this time?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:18 pm

First off:

Arena: prison
Daggerfall: cave
Morrowind: boat (can be assumed you were a prisoner, but I don't think the game ever clearly stated you were)
Oblivion: prison

Out of four of the games only the first and fourth truly started in a prison, so I wouldn't really say that it's a tradition.

Second: Has it been announced that we're starting in a prison?

We're in prison because we complained that they removed sutch from tes4

edit:

no we're in prison because we accidently insulted half of skyrim by saying that they all have the same voice as martin.

Technically only Oblivion started you out in prison... Morrowind had you brought as a prisoner and released, but as was mentioned before Daggerfall had you shipwrecked en route to a quest per the emperor.

This game is breaking rules already in how they are doing things anyway... books, VGA announcements, direct sequels, brand spanking new engine, voices in the music... who knows, you might start out as a Daedric prince for all we know!
Arena had you start off imprisoned by Jagar Tharn,

It's become a bit of tradition for Morrowind and Oblivion to let the player decide why he was there and what he did.

Maybe we'll get born, and get to take part in key events in our character's childhood, until one day we're an advlt and start our own adventure.

Nah, that's a silly idea.

In all seriousness, they do need to some up with something else. Perhaps you were found near-frozen by some Skyrim villagers, and the town doctor nursed you back to health. It would be somewhat like Fallout: New Vegas, but without the revenge angle since you wouldn't be a victim of an attack, just a simple wanderer who got caught in the weather unprepared.

You're right! I always forget about Arena... I played it so freaking long ago... it is almost unplayable these days!

Maybe they found us in a dragons nest, hence dragon born, and it scared them so they locked us up but really we were only gonna be hatchling munchies :)

I would have to make a steve rogers character if they did that!

I would like to see a start like Fallout 3's. I mean it gave it such a more realistic and more personal feeling to the game. I mean starting out a game as a kid and growing up rarely happens it'd be a nice addition to the elder scrolls.

But if it is prison again I do like the public urination reason lol.

this would be a problem if there were no children, though

Lost control of my horse. Killed a noble. Assumed his identity. Turns out the noble did not pay taxes to the king. Arrested as a tax evader. :deal: :bonk:

I think too that growing would be nice.

It will probably offer no explanation as to why we're in prison, as the tradition goes.

Starting as a prisoner is an Elder Scroll tradition, not starting in prison.

Arena and Oblivion had you in prison.
You started as a prisoner of the Privateer's Hold in Daggerfall.
You started as a prisoner in Morrowind, you were released because you fitted the prophecy.

The only game that didn't force you to find your way out was Morrowind.

Who says that we have to be in prison? The player wasn't a prisoner in Daggerfall, rather, he was a Blades Agent. Honestly, I'd rather see something other than the character starting off in prison.

They could be witty. You start out in prison with another NPC and some corny dialogue harkening back to Oblivion could make you dread the opening dungeon then BOOM! the wall behind you blows open because of a battle/uprising occurring and you can waltz out.

Took a bag of dog crap set it on the King's door, lit it on fire knocked on the door, and dipped out.
After that you murdered someone and went to prison for murder. :goodjob:

Put in prison for public urination.

This, obviously.

Seriously guys get it together. All TES characters start out in disgrace from public urination.

You will start in prison, more specifically in the drunk tank. Your first test will obviously be to fight a huge rat while you're still under the influence.

Seriously, we all know we're going to start in a prison fighting rats, it would be nice with a little twist.
