Why are my Radio Ops having a "working" holiday?

Post » Sat Feb 13, 2016 7:38 pm

My Vault has reached 200 Dweller capacity.

According to the info, the Radio Operators are supposedly raising the happiness of the Vault (I assume by playing music or being all chipper manic pixie happy over the PA system).

But everytime I inspect the Radio Rooms, this is what I see:

They are just wandering around, not actually working!

When the Vault was below capacity, they'd be doing stuff with the things in the room, shuffling music discs around, pushing buttons on the console and one of them was non-stop talking into the microphone,

Are these rooms actually in use or are they just walking around not doing anything at all?

They are definitely doing something because when I take one out my happiness drops ... upside is you helped me complete a make 30 people 100% happy objective with the experiment :D

Whenever a room has completed production, the people walk around idle until you collect.

They really have to rework the radio room or something... The room operators don't gain any XP from doing their job either.

I am not sure why people are worried about experience for radio operators ... at this point in the game I have more than 100 level 40 dwellers and could put one of them (or 6 maxed level 50s ... which I have a lot of) into the room ... I only maintain 6 dwellers in the room and only for happiness (since at 200 dwellers I get no new folks joining) ... lack of experience in the SPECIAL enhancing rooms has been more inconvenient as I have had low level characters in them for many weeks (and can't rotate them out until they finish enhancing)

Because everytime the Radroaches break into the main radio room (rare, but it does happen!), they get one shotted pretty fast!

The reason is that they're all still level 1 because they are not recieving any XP from their jobs.

And it's not like I have rooms they can be assigned to to gain XP, every work area is staffed to capacity.

Because it is what player will expect reasonablely. The Radio Studio is work place and player reasonably expects that the workers there will get XP as they do in other work place like power generator. Giving XP to Radio worker will not break any game balance or diminish game fun.

Current Radio Studio defies such expectation without any reasonable justification or benefit of game fun. So there were multiple forum threads about such unexpected peculiar behavior of Radio Studio. It is example of bad game design.

I guess the reason why FOS devs choose such bad game design: The routine that endows dwellers XP and level up is located in resourece production time loop.

So the more resourece produced, the more XP and level dwellers get. Loop time period is short (few minutes or few 10's of seconds)

But loop time period of the Radio Studio Is very long: few hours. So it is not suitable for purpose of XP or level accumulation of dwellers. So they removed such function from Radio Studio time loop code. That is why the Radio Studio does not endows XP to dwellers working in it.

My suggestion: use separate timer loop that endows XP to all workers in production and radio studio.
