Why are the Brotherhood the only ones...

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 6:12 pm

Who don't realize you're wearing power armor? Just about every other NPC in the game will acknowledge you having power armor, if it's relevant to the current situation. But for some reason, it's all but invisible to the power armor hoarding Brotherhood. If you walked up to a Brotherhood member while wearing a full suit of X-01 power armor, you'd think they'd have something to say about it.

Was it a named NPC? Or just one of the general Knights or Scribes?

BOS guys see PA all the time - it's not a novelty or a legend to them like it would be to most Wastelanders. They'll comment, just not as often.

As already said, the PA are so normal for the BoS that they probably don't even notice it. Heck, they would more likely notice you NOT having one XD

Granted, they should not like random Wastelanders walking in them. But since the game thinks that you joined the BoS before Prydwen came, none of them will even care you have the PA (or maybe they do react differently if the see you in it while not being a member... won't know for sure if and what the differences are until GECK is out I guess).

Yeah, but you would think when they see a non-BOS civilian wearing full T-45/51/60 or even X-01 armor, they would have something to say about it.

BOS doesn't claim to own all PA or pre-War tech - they just have a particular thing about collecting it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they shouldn't comment at all - just that it makes sense to me that they wouldn't get all wobbly over a suit of PA. They could certainly make more pro comments, eg "Hey, is that an X-01? Sweet - where'd you find that?".

I love it when NPC's react to some stylistic or story choice I've made. Loved it in Skyrim when locals would refer to me as a foreigner, loved how Companions could ditch you due to your actions in FO3, and I almost wet my pants with joy when Codsworth called me "Mr Flagg". Stuff like that is just gold in an RPG.

Likewise, there are so many things like that in this game. I was very sad today when I wa swimming off the coast and realised that the buoys don't ring and don't have anchoring chains, and especially don't have crap on the bottom beneath them. Half the game feels like a tarted up point lookout - my favorite DLC from 3 - and that was one of the best things about that DLC.

I didn't mention anything about them forcibly claiming all PA.

They actually should be getting all wobbly. As far as I know only raiders, gunners, and BOS use PA. Raiders use scrap, or no armor pieces at all. Gunners, only named NPC's I believe, use random pieces of T-51(45?). With the exception of one member who has a T-60 torso with T-51 limbs. BOS from what I've seen wear complete sets of T-60, did not see T-45/51 anywhere on board. So when I, a random civilian who clearly isn't part of those factions, waltzes in with a complete set of pre-war T-45/51/60 or Enclave X-01 and they don't bat an eye? I find that disturbing.

I was happy when said my first name, but disappointed when he couldn't say my last name instead.

The best is when you're wearing a full suit of X-01:
"Join the Brotherhood of Steel and you'll get your very own suit of Power Armor!"

.. so you join and ask about Power Armor (while wearing Power Armor):
"Actually, only Knights are permitted to use Power Armor."

.. and then you finally get promoted and talk to Maxson:
"And here's your very own suit of Power Armor! Nice, I know. No thanks necessary."

Gee, thanks.

Unlike the Wasteland, PA isn't the most amazing thing about you to them.

Your a 200 something year old Vault Dweller who saw the world before the bombs fell, hell who witnessed the bombs fall.

You have information on an intact Vault with systems that are able to cryogenically freeze people for hundreds of years.

Do they ask you about that? No, they send you off on suicide missions.

Well, you know, traditions.

I'm *pretty* sure 111 no longer has the ability to freeze people, with the exception of your Pod, maybe. Considering the fate of all the others who were frozen. But who knows as to why our character hasn't particular interest in saluaging 111 for tech. Maybe the corpse of your spouse has something to do with it. :P

That is odd as well. When I had to meet the crew, I had to talk to the doctor. When I told him I was from a vault he was mildly suprised, only because it wasn't on his clipboard. Then he sent me on my way.

He sounded rather impressed by it to me. But maybe we picked different dialog trees.

But, considering the Brotherhood have had experience with three noteworthy people from vaults before- thats not exactly a "new" prospect for them either.

I only wish they brought up your Pre-War Knowledge a little more, when it came to the technology in the world. But I suppose with being a Soldier, or Lawyer back then, most of what you know had sufficient propaganda left behind.

Oh, I know why it was shut down. I'm more referring to why your Character in a BoS play through isn't given the opportunity to tell them about the vault you came from, and the technology they can salvage from it.

Eh, maybe I was expecting a more enthused response. Maybe ask a bunch of questions, possibly ask for a blood sample, or whatever.

Exactly, we are a rare prospect. As you said, other vault dwellers have helped BOS before. You'd think you would see more excitement from them.

We wouldn't be much use in that department anyway. We were a generic soldier (veteran)/ lawyer, we can't possibly know where there would be a stash of tech/info.
