Is it a resource thing? Hard to imagine though. At the slightest opportunity in these forums the mods bulldozer in and close threads like their lives depend on it. Why?

If you're wondering about the closing of my two threads today, I requested it to avoid confusion.
Aside from the poster requesting it they only really close threads if they a) go past 200 posts (I guess it's a resource thing) or if they get out of hand or c) if they are a duplicate / against the rules thread.
edit: sunglasses = by 2nd point... "b"
Well yeah I was wondering about that but that's not the only occurrence. It happens a lot more and btw it's also kind of weird that they're willing to grand a request for closing. And there's nothing special about 200 posts in a hardware resources requirements kind of way. Why have that policy?
In http://www.gamesas.com/topic/646582-important-forum-information/, they have a link http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/724862-forum-rules-and-general-information/page__view__findpost__p__10470780 That might answer some of your question.
I'm going to close this one because if you have any questions about moderator action, choose one that's online and send a personal message.
Someone starts a thread and gets an answer, so they ask to have the thread closed. Or they accidentally started a manure storm and would rather shut it down before it goes too far so they ask to have it closed. Why wouldn't we close threads when it is the thread starter that asks?
In the Forum rules that people are supposed to read before joining: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/724862-forum-rules-and-general-information/#entry10470780
If we bulldozed in and closed threads that criticize Bethesda or at a whim the way some posters believe we do, there would be far fewer threads and the forums would be a much quieter place. We don't do that, however. As long as the thread follows the forum rules, people can and do criticize the games, the studio, and management decisions.
If you want to know why a thread was closed, and there is no closing post explaining why, send a pm to the mod that closed it and ask. None of us mind answering questions.
