Why are the orcs the most hated race?

Post » Sun Jan 29, 2017 7:34 pm

I don't get why the Bretons and Redguard's destroyed Orsinium 4 times. I don't know why they think they're such a threat. Why not make an alliance with the orcs again and go to war with the Khajitt and Aldmeri Dominion?

We are mocked for all we stand for;

Our worship of Malacath;

Our creation from the dung of Boethia from Trinimac;

Our lack of "attractiveness"

Our Tribal Lifestyle in strongholds

&c

If they didn't, they'd be fighting each other, which would be major for them. So they pick on the minority, which is safer.

They test us for weakness, and find none.

Because orcs were the bad guys in Tolkien LOTR series for one which shaped people's minds. Second, they look like ugly pig faced people.

They way ESO shows it, the Code of Malacath works against them. Individual Orcs are strong. Strongholds are self reliant. But they're no match for a king's army and the stronghold system doesn't scale up to that size effectively. This makes them a relatively easy target outside Orsinium and causes discontent among traditionalists within Orsinium. That's probably why the new cult of Trinimac preached "unity" as a key virtue.

There's also the grudge. The faithful of Malacath don't forget grudges and much of the outside world has a massive blood debt that they just keep rising. An eye for an eye makes the world blind, but other cultures pragmatically or ideologically forgive and they have sheer numbers on their side.

They know that. But being surrounded by enemies keeps them strong. So far as they're concerned, that's good. Aside from being a colossal injustice, peace through integration would soften them.

I still wish to see the day when Orsinium is at least acknowledged as a province!

Who can truly say?

To me, they exist. Maybe not in body, but in soul.

Lets not forget to mention that Argonians and Khajitt are sitting in the Ugly Tree together. I've also seen some pretty hideous looking Nords, Bosmer, and Dunmer too.

Well nothing against orcs and would be fun to play one next time around as a stealthy assassin character.

I think they got the double negative here... for one, they worship Trinimac and still Mer in some way, opposed to Men and Lorkhan. On the other hand, they're not looked kindly on by Mer too, since Trinimac is dead and Malacath is merely Boethiah's reanimated Dung. Err.... or something.

And then even other Daedric lords don't acknowledge him as one of their own too. It's like the embarassing family member or something.

So make that a Triple Negative.

I like Orcs though personally. The average one, that is.

Because it's what they are. They're the Pariah Folk, and it is in their very nature. As Azura's Curse is baked into the nature of the Dunmer, so too is the Pariah Folk bound to the nature of the Orsimer.

I always play orcs characters, even my mage is and orc. I like the fact that they are so different than the orcs from Tolkien stories. Their simple, self sustaining society and the Code of Malacath.

Honestly, I like Warcraft's take on Orcs the most. I'm not a big fan of the games or settings otherwise though.

From a fan point of view, I think warcraft or warhammer orcs don't help as they display them as an oversized brute in massive armors which kinda looks out of place in a world of multi-cultural races with equally pitted stats. Sure there are those that love that look, but I think there are a lot more who see it as a bit OTT. TES orcs are totally different as they are more of a normal proportion and are like a barbarian themed race living in semi-nomdic stronghold or in a fortified large city camp up in the mountains. Their height was only large in one game where they were second to the Altmer (forget which one), but in others they are shorter than a Nord, which brings them away from the OTT Warcraft style and make them more of a shorter but stocky "pig" race relying on ferociousness and attitude than size. The TES Orcs have a whole unique identity such things like where many joining the Imperial Legion and select women pass down magic and alchemy.

From a lore perspective, the Orcs are disliked by Bretons and Redguards due mostly to the cultural clash. I think it records in lore that the Orc nation are responsible for harvesting bandit type people who on occassions have robbed Breton society. That I think was the cause of one Orsinium assault. There is also lore that describes Orsinium as a smelly place where animals such as chickens etc live side by side with there masters and the Orcs hygiene is not so important to them as the races alongside them.

Orcs are literal space aliens in Warcraft. So it fits.

I personally think they look totally OTT as they tend to dwarf other races. But then from what I have seen, Warcraft does that. It doesn't go for a realism as much as games like Witcher, LOTR (film based) and TES. It'll have a five foot nothing sword fighting a 7 foot ape.

I like it, although as I said, I dislike the games (and all MMOs really). But their art style is top notch imo.. and they make it work on low end systems (or rather, it's more dependent on style rather than pixel tech). I wish others learned from them. I bet Overwatch will look good for a long time too.

Bias from our cultural upbringing and the many times they've been our enemies in most every story. At least here we start to see them as fully developed characters and not just demonic henchmen of an evil wizard.
