How long ago was that though? We made them almost extinct so they are only in cali now.

Does not matter when, but I think it was at the end of the 1800s that they died out there. Point is if man kind went away. Grizzly Bears would go back there. Heat would not matter because historically Grizzly bears once lived in Nevada, which means they can again. Southern Nevada was not hit that bad so it would be no trouble at all for them to live there. They have mutated hence the two-heads so they could live anywhere really.

As I said in another post a good reason as to maybe why we don't see them is that NCR has hunted them. Grizzly Bears were wiped out by hunters, farmers/ranchers and so on. Just like Wolves. Humans don't like having big predators around their cattle/brahmin.

The Great War started and ended on Saturday, October 23, 2077 (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Great_War)

The grizzly bear appears on the Flag of California, though they are extinct in the state, the last one having been shot in 1922. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grizzly_bear)

Your pic (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0e/Ursus_arctos_horribilis_map.svg) states that "historically" Grizzly Bears lived in Nevada, but gives no time reference for what "historically" is. Even under the best case scenario, it was 155 years between the death of the last grizzly bear and the start of the great war.

I don't see why they would come back to a nuclear wasteland, when they haven't come back yet in "our world". There would be little wildlife to support them and no conservationists to protect them.

1st: You missed my point completely.

2nd: I know when the great war was and I know what the California flag looked like before the war (real life), I am not stupid. You don't need to give me a source about the most basic fallout facts.

My point was. At some point in HISTORY. Grizzly Bears lived in Nevada. They could be found as far south as Mexico. With no humans around due to the Great War, they could have come back to Nevada.

3rd: I am not complaining about there being no bears, I am just saying there COULD BE.

4th: It is possible that there was a Two-headed Bear somewhere back in California which was the reason NCR CHANGED the old pre-war flag!

5th: All I am asking for is one UNIQUE two-headed bear and I don't really care if we get it, I just think it would be cool.

Its quiet obvious that bears aren't extinct considering fallout 3 and the symbol for the NCR.Yet why aren't there any mutated bears like yaoi guas(spelling?).Don't give me the theres no bears in nevada or bears don't live in the desert.A species of mutated bear could possibly migrate into nevada. Most of the United States is now desert so the latter is obviosly not true. Also for the NCR to make a bear their symbol they would have most likely have had to see a bear in the first place.Where are the bears in New Vegas?

Why would obsidian add bears?? that would make the game exciting! a big no no for obsidian. Lets just add some more 'go fetch boy' missions instead! Then just pass it off as good story writing!

or maybe because it is a [censored] desert and the enviromental niche for such a predator is already filled, go take your silly game bashing somewhere else, i am okay with logical reasoned game bashing, i can argue with that, but your just being intentionally hostile.

Alright, now that that's all done.

I propose a test, someone has made a yao guai mod i'll bet, put 1 (bears are solitary animals) them against a pack of Mojave predators, packs > lone wolves

Yes but the bear has two heads. Which means the people of NCR Changed their one headed bear on the pre-war flag to a two-headed bear. I can't see any reason for this unless at some point there was a two-headed bear.

There are many coats of arms with dragons, griffons and other mythical creatures on them. Doesn't mean you'll see one of those in the wild.

Heraldic animals are symbols. Representations of power and nobility. They don't have to be real.

Two-headed animals usually symbolize the unity of two principles or forces; in the ancient Roman Republic, for example, the two-headed eagle symbolized the unity of the Senate (i.e. government) and the people. I'd wager that NCR symbolism is along the same lines.

Game wise, though, Deathclaws are a reptilian version of mutated bears (big, hairy, dangerous up close), so actual bears would be superfluous.

The same could be said about most quests and the main quest of Fallout 3.

Maybe they werent added because Obsidian likes to keep things logical, unlike Fallout 3.

i dont care about bears being in the game. its the boring repetitive errand boy quests that piss me off. add in all the glitches and freezing and you've got a very poor game. If this game wins any awards it will be a tragedy

I hated how every quest in Fallout 3 was a "shoot them" quest and the only other option besides killing was evil or shooting yourself in the foot, couple that with bugs (Fallout 3 had a lot) and a linear storyline that didnt let you make any choices on your own accord, only preset choices the game forces on you, New Vegas is much more open, and the "errand boy" quests usually have a couple actually palpable options for completing it.

Except there was almost no roleplaying in Fallout 3, play the orignal Fallouts before you make a most holy dictation over the proper future for Fallout.

What is SO DAMN BAD about wanting to actually stay with the damn lore? It's attitudes like that that bastardized Fallout 3.

fallout has changed for the better. Fallout 3 was far from perfect but NV was just boring! fallout has become one of the biggest selling game out there. Thanks to bethesda. its now bigger than ever before.

how is it for the better? FPS =/= better, abandoning lore =/= better, realitme combat =/= better, disregarding RPG mechanics =/= better, all Fallout 3 did better was exploration, near everything else was better in the originals or superfluous.

Lore FACT.
Every game changes the lore if it doesn't then its a complete and utter failure for not adding anything new to the world.

Fallout 3 abandons lore only in a limited imagination.

Does adding a new strain of super mutants abandon lore? If so then Fallout 2 abandoned lore. It was established in Fallout 1 that the master has trouble creating the super mutants as we know them. Yet the Enclave does it to countless people by accidental exposure in FO2? Sounds like abandoning lore by the way you define it? How does having Elder Lyon's explicitly break ties from the way the west coast BoS abandon lore? They didn't change the way the BoS operated back west. They have the whole story about Elder Lyon's coming to the east and changing how they operated. Hence the outcasts. The vault experiment idea didn't even exist until Fallout 2 so thats "abandoning lore" of Fallout 1.

Just because you don't like that Elder Lyon's decided to remake the BoS a heroic organization devoted to good doesn't mean its abandoning lore, as nothing in the lore says an Elder couldn't do that. Just because you don't like a "secret" experiment being carried out on the east coast involving FEV doesn't mean its abandoning lore. You can't have every secret of the game world revealed in the first title.

Now Fallout Tactics THAT game abandoned lore.

then how to you explain yao gui.they are a mutated species of bear that live in the Capital Wasteland, which is mostly desert along with the rest of the nation.so it would be perfectly reasonable to have a bear species in new vegas

Because the Mojave desert has no black bears to begin with. But Black Bears can be found within a few hours drive of Washington DC.
