Why Are There no Bears?

Post » Wed Jun 17, 2009 9:32 am

Its quiet obvious that bears aren't extinct considering fallout 3 and the symbol for the NCR.Yet why aren't there any mutated bears like yaoi guas(spelling?).Don't give me the theres no bears in nevada or bears don't live in the desert.A species of mutated bear could possibly migrate into nevada. Most of the United States is now desert so the latter is obviosly not true. Also for the NCR to make a bear their symbol they would have most likely have had to see a bear in the first place.Where are the bears in New Vegas?

Because they fill a niche that is already taken between Cazadors, Nightstalkers, Fire Geckos, and Deathclaws, along with human hunters, i dont think a large animal such as a bear could live in such environs, lest it muscle out a competing species, and you try fighting the above things, the first two have poison, the third fire, fourth is a [censored] Deathclaw, and humans have them pointy things that make a loud noise and a flash.

Bighorner Bull = Grizzly Bear, just less territorial and aggressive.

There you go.

Actually there are a few Black Bears that live in the Southwestern deserts, but it's not common. Mexican Grizzlies live in a hot arid region but it's not quite a desert. Technically the Arctic is a desert, so Polar Bears live in one, too, but that's just being picky.

Gamewise, they just didn't need any. Lots of other critters around, and with the exception of one and a half canines, no mammals.

It might have been interesting (if corny) if they could have woven a legendary two-headed bear into the story, somehow.

The NCR Flag

Yes, I want to see the bear on the flag. I am not asking for a new creature to populate the wasteland. Just one Legendary Two-headed Yao Guai in the mountains.

hmmm this is true.but to tell you the truth i destroy all of the above.the only thing that kills me is cazador venom and deathclaws in close quarters.I personally believe that a mutated bear could probably out compete fire geckos and possibly Nightstalkers also. That is depending on weather they bring back yao guis or introduce a completly different type of bear needs to be taken into consideration.

One reason why there could be no bears but by the flag there had to have been two-headed bears at one point, is the same reason bears are gone in that part of the world today.

Grizzly Bears are seem as threats to farmers so they were hunted to the point they are now gone. NCR is full of brahmin barons and brahmin are also the man way of trade. The bears could have been causing alot of trouble for the brahmin farmers/ranchers/barons and the caravan companies. So the people of NCR hunted them down to extinction.

[/quotthen how to you explain yao gui.they are a mutated species of bear that live in the Capital Wasteland, which is mostly desert along with the rest of the nation.so it would be perfectly reasonable to have a bear species in new vegas

there is a hole in your logic.their are a number of species of predators in the wasteland that are prospering.if what you say were true then most predators would have been hunted to exctinction. The NCR just doesn't have the man power or the recources in order to go on a campaign intended to act mass genocide on a species.it just doesn't make sense.

Wild dogs are easy enough to stop. Deathclaws deadly yes but they keep to their own areas and hunting them down is alot harder, removing the bears is one less giant predater to deal with. Nightstalkers seem to stay in caves. Cazadors like the hills and mountains. Grizzly Bears are a large predators that would go anywhere there is food. Brahmin in pens makes nice food.

I have a way for everyone to see how bears would fair in a fight against all the different predators in the wastes...someone that has a good comp., the G.E.C.K., and something to record with, set up a match. Use the G.E.C.K. and spawn a couple of bears near the different animals in the wasteland and see who wins.

The NCR are from CALIFORNIA hence the name New CALIFORNIA Republic and the flag of the state of california has an ordinary grizzly on it hence there being one on the NCR's flag, please do more research before creating a topic such as this lol.

Yes but the bear has two heads. Which means the people of NCR Changed their one headed bear on the pre-war flag to a two-headed bear. I can't see any reason for this unless at some point there was a two-headed bear.

[/quot Yes but giving a bear two heads for no apparent reason doesn't really make sense now does it.Unless they just liked the idea of putting two heads on a bear of the original flag it woud only seen possible that they at one time saw such a creature as the one on the flag

New California Republic, they use Pre-war Californian flag but they change the number of heads makes little sense to me. I don't see why there could not have been a two-headed bear. We have Bighorners now and we did not see them in the originals. From the way people talk in New Vegas they have always been around.

I'd say two people. One faster than the other.

Read my second comment on the last page and P.S. Yes it is possible that this happened BUT there is no conclusive evidence on either side of the fence of this argument so lest end it here at a tie and continue on with the discussion at hand.
