I don't know that there are none? did you take the wild trait at the beginning of the game? I remember when i finished goodsprings and was leaving for primm i rand into some dude saying he wanted me to rescue his Girlfriend, it wasn't a labeled quest and not sure if anyone else got it, but thats about as random as you can get without a travel system like fallout 1/2. fallout 3 random encounters were about the same as that

There is nothing random about the Barton Thorn encounter. He's always at that location.

Sultan: They aren't random. Wild Wasteland just enables 15 silly, but not random, events that happen in the same location every time you play.

Concerning the lack of random encounters, keep an http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1132531-wip-wild-wild-wasteland/

They were great in Fallout 3, they added realism and some humour... here and there, not to mention roleplayability; who knows why there are not any in New Vegas.

There are random encounters and some are more common than others. Some can only be found in certain areas like ones that involve a faction happen near that faction's territory.

The wild wasteland perk increases the chance of encountering them and also indicates when you have found a random encounter.

The guy south of Goodsprings is either extremely common or something at the end of the mini-quest is random, since I encountered him with EVERY character I started.

No. It's because they are not random. They all occur in the same place, every time with every character. There's no "chance" it's just "on" or "off."

The only random encounter I've had yet is the guy who tells you about the Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Caps and the treasure Vault. I'm not even sure if it's random or if it's supposed to happen when you get the first one.

Yeah, I don't think that's really a random encounter. It's more like the Victoria Watts Underground Railroad thing in FO3--once you trigger it by starting Replicated Man, she shows up shortly after to get in your face about it.

Thanks so much, SwishLizard. This has really been bothering me; the random encounters always gave you something to do while walking around in FO3, and the lack of them in NV definitely speaks to Bethseda's greater skill at developing open world games. I'll be keeping a close eye on your mod!

I'll have to go back to Goodspring and see if I can find that Thorn guy, because that doesn't sound familiar at all. (Or is he one of the Wild Wasteland encounters?)
