Why are these boards so friendly?

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 9:36 pm

I don't know why I think this completely becasue we can't see from members profiles (usually) how old we are, but i do remember some members posts where a few people have revealed their age, and I get the impression the forum has a genuine mixed community of ages & nationalities all coming together under FallOut3 greatness :)

Trolls usually appear when a discussion involves Enclave or story/cannon. I get the impression a group of FO1 & 2 fans like to routinely bash FO3, I think it's becasue they can't cope with an RPG being a shooter at the same time and they are hopeless without a turn based thing to slow the game down for them :P

but this doesn't take into account the growing number of FallOut New Vegas fans who seem to be bashing FO3 lately :( at least they do it on the Vegas section and not here.

I saw http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/30/opinion/30zhuo.html?_r=1 not long ago. There's a great comic strip about it on Penny Arcade too, although I won't link to it because of the language :P

But basically, a lot of people act like jerks on the internet because they are anonymous and because there rarely are any consequences. Most of the internet is a freeheaven to be a [censored].

yep. lottsa 90lb go getters living in there mom's basemant out there suffering from "internet muscles".

When we're really pissed off at people we 'forget' the cucumber sandwiches when bringing out the tea. That'll show 'em!

Biscuit?

Holy bejesus, did you just make an Oscar Wilde joke on a gaming forum?

I have been part of a few message boards and forums before. Mainly (only) for online shooters, and I have to say, these forums are way to friendly. Its sorta a shock to my system. Ive been lurking around a little bit on the Fallout 3 board, and I have yet to see a negative post or comment. Im used to seeing constant troll threads and posts, and people being called bush wookies (don't ask). This is too strange... But I could get used to this.

Civilisation over barbarism! :D

Anyway, yeah, it's pretty good here. I felt similarly amazed when I first joined -- after spending a good few years on GameFaqs (shudder), I was relieved.

Thank you, BGSF and its awesome moderators. :)

This section of the forum for Fallout 3 I think tends to be more laid back and helpful because the gamers love Fallout 3, and accept the faults about it, rather then denying them and flaming you for blasphemy.
I noticed the same thing when I joined, the Fallout 3 section and subsections of the FO3 forum are all helpful and useful. If you post something wrong somewhere, people will notify you and mods pretty quickly move them to the correct spot.

Same however, can't be said for the rest of the forum unfortunately, some are nicer then others I suppose, but. From my experiences, This section rocks!

Ahh yes, "Bush Wookies", a word used daily on the Battlefield forums. Which are a bit more polite than most fps forums. The CoD forums are probably the absolute worst I've ever seen. The Halo forums are more mature than the CoD ones. These forums are usually very chill and laid back. You'll occasionally get the random ass hat who starts a "PC vs Console" argument. Which those are deleted very quickly. I like these forums more than any other I've been on. You actually get to discuss the game here.

We. Will. Get. You.

:verymad:

Spoiler
Im only kidding Skirt, we're not coming to 'get' you or anything... Or are we? :P

Good enough. We can now get back to civil conversation.

Did you hear? They say syndicates of wizards have led a boycott of Imperial goods in the land of the Altmer.

The forum is friendly, but don't say these things on the forums:

1. Oblivion is better than Morrowind.

2. Oblivion is dumbed down.

3. Fallout 3 is not a Fallout game.

4. Fallout 3 fans are not Fallout fans.

5. Original Fallout fans are elitists.

6. Morrowind players are purists.

If you say anyone of those lines, you will start a flame war. Just warning :D

While the forums are friendly, and the mods can sometimes be bribed nice enough to allow a relatively off-topic thread to continue, blatant spamming will still earn a :slap: .

Last time I looked, neither the forum or Fallout 3 had mudcrabs or altmer. If you want to chat, take it to pm, please.
