Why are these boards so friendly?

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 12:22 am

I have been part of a few message boards and forums before. Mainly (only) for online shooters, and I have to say, these forums are way to friendly. Its sorta a shock to my system. Ive been lurking around a little bit on the Fallout 3 board, and I have yet to see a negative post or comment. Im used to seeing constant troll threads and posts, and people being called bush wookies (don't ask). This is too strange... But I could get used to this.

Lemme guess.... you've come from the Facepunch/Steam forums right?

Nah, console gamer (unfortunately). I come from a couple of FPS boards that shall not be named.

When we're really pissed off at people we 'forget' the cucumber sandwiches when bringing out the tea. That'll show 'em!

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. This board has some decent moderators, unlike those eeeevil corporate money grubbin' EA forums and all that stuff. :P

I don't even think you can consider the people over there mods. They enforce the dumbest things, like accidentally letting a curse word slip, yet let trolls run amok, its rather disheartening.

A better question is, why are so many other boards filled with rude people and trolls. My guess is they didn't get enough hugs as kids...

That's the whole reason I like these forums best. I feel at home here because I pretty much get along with everybody, and if I accidently slip up and say the wrong thing like I did the other day all I have to do is apologize and it's all forgiven and forgotten. :)

Other game forums are full of immature little kids AND immature grown advlts living in their parent's basemant with nothing better to do then to troll people who just want to talk about their favorite games. I blame that hippity hop music! :disco:  :violin:

Praise for the forums–and the moderators especially ;)–is always welcome however please don't complain other other sites, at least not if you're going to name them or give hints to their identity.

I never understood why people felt the need to rip each other apart on forums, anyways. Shouldn't we all use our love of whatever it is -- in this case, Fallout 3/Bethesda video games -- to come together as one big e-fan family?

Edit: OK, my post was kind of dumb, some I'm going to reword it. I think it just has something to do with the types of games Bethesda makes. Certain games just attract certain types of fans to forums. Sometimes the fan mentality will be a bunch of immature bullies who think they can prove they are a badass like the characters they play in the game by harassing and attacking other members. Fortunetly Bethesda's games don't seem to attract a lot of fans with that type of mentality, and when you add the fact that you have Mods who do a pretty good job of keeping the peace it just makes the forums a much more pleseant place.

That's just my theory though.

whoops  lemme go clean it up.

They're fixed.

On topic: But you guys should be seein me around more often. Gettin NV for Christmas (w00t), I should've got it sooner, but I bought into a tactical shooter that was only good for its SP (only lasted me around 15 hours with trophy/achievement hunting and replays).

I understood what you meant the first time <3 And, you're right, mods that handle situations maturely and appropriately make a huge difference.

friendly, yes of course you could say that, the forums here are for grown ups. idk why some forums tend to flame war each member, although i see a forum in fo3 a year ago between pro-BoS and Enclave, but still in a friendly manner not the offensive type.

So feel free to ask, sharing knowledge is better than staring for nothing.

It's a mix of strict assurance the rules are enforced, and largely that people here actually want to talk about a game, but oh lord, watch what you say, you say one wrong thing, and someone will counter your opinion with a wall of text.

You think everyone in these forums are nice? Well, you certainly haven't stepped into the Community Discussion forums yet. :P

Also a side note: I don't see how this topic is discussing Fallout 3, and I wouldn't have let it stay here. But as we all can see a moderator has posted here twice, and hasn't offered much opposition. So I guess it's okay?

The odd off forum topic doesn't hurt, makes a change - occasionally so let's not make a habit of it. :stare: ;)

As these are the home forums of Bethesda Softworks we try to keep them as a place where anyone can visit and feel at home and enjoy being a member. It takes all types to make a successful forum and I love the community there is, not only on this forum but on all the other sub forums. *Most of the time. :D

Any board is friendly after being on the videogame section of a certain imageboard (or any board there for that matter)

I saw http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/30/opinion/30zhuo.html?_r=1 not long ago. There's a great comic strip about it on Penny Arcade too, although I won't link to it because of the language :P

But basically, a lot of people act like jerks on the internet because they are anonymous and because there rarely are any consequences. Most of the internet is a freeheaven to be a [censored].

Yes, most of the internet is. But not BGSF. One false move around here and http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab344/Holy_Assassin47/BGSFiction.jpg?t=1292411862 will happen. :P

The moderators run a tight ship. Some people think they're a bit too strict sometimes but it keeps the forums nicely organized. I'm guessing having a modding community has something to do with it too.

That is one possibility.

There is also the "cat toy" option. Its like the first one, but more "claw" focused.
