Why are vehicles impossible in future fallout

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 5:36 am

I did read a few posts on one threath that vehicles were not possible cause of the reasource wars. I am aware of those wars but how is it that they appear in fallout tactics?
Plus how can NCR, Enclave and east coast BoS use Vertibirds if all fuel in the world is used up?

I haven't played Tactics yet and I'm not sure what Vertibirds run on, but the Highwayman in Fallout 2 had an electric motor that ran on Microfusion and Energy Cells.

In Tactics there are vehicles, but I don't remember if there were any clues about their fuel. Either gasoline or microfusion/energy cells.

Tactics is a different genre than 1/2/3/NV for one. Another is most object to vehicle handling. It'd be too goofy whether a motorcycle or car.

Now I do myself approve of a setup like 2 with it's fuel ran car. Personally I always felt 3 and NV's fast travel system should of followed this scheme. Fast travel for resource use. Just like how 90s games used fast travel. It's not a 2000's phenominon.

So I mean you find it in-game, activate it, put in fuel, choose destination. Appears outside/on the road near said POI or unmarked area.

On the second question. Enclave had some of the world's last fossil fuel reserves. NCR prob acquired it after their defeat along with vertibirds. Enclave in D.C. brought equipment from west, or they had resources stockpiled at Raven Rock too.

Lyon's BoS acquired veribirds/fuel from defeated Enclave.

There is no reason vehicle can't be in future Fallouts, there are mods for a vertibird and motorcycle. And the impression is given that the NCR have vehicles other than the vertibird. There is no reason there can't be working vehicles in future Fallout games other than the game engine. And with mods already putting vehicles in, that's not even a real reason.

I cant remember if it was 3 or nv but if you shot a car long enough it exploded and gave off radiation so I always thought the cars didnt use gas but some form or nuclear drive. With that type of drive they should be fixable.

I also would like brahmin to be buyable for extra carrying, I mean if there are trade caravans then why not? Just dont make enemies always auto target them as bandits would want them alive to take the look back with them as well.

Why cant we ride brahmin like a horse?

Not ready for flying yet as the world hasnt been fixed enough for easy refueling and repairs, but for ground vehicles I dont see why not or animals. Just adds a new way to explore and the best thing, if ppl object then dont use the feature =)

We know that towards the end of normal civilization the US had developed microfusion cells which could power cars, and power armor, so nuclear power is how they do it most of the time.

But in New Vegas the Boomers have a B-29, they even share their secret and say they are using a bio-fuel to power it, and we know it works as you can see it flying.

They are definitely possible to have in Fallout, but I see no reason to have them in a sandbox environment like Fallout 3's or New Vegas'. The only way I could see them being any use is the way they were used in Fallout 2, as a quicker form of transportation between nodes.

No where in Fallout Tactics does the game say the vehicles run on fossil fuels. There is a possability that they run on biofuels such as ethanol. The Boomers use ethanol to fuel their bomber and the people in Fallout Tactics make their own alcohol such as "gut rot" so it wouldn't be to much of a strech to think that someone figured out that it can be used to fuel their vehicles.

Also I don't get this topic. The reason why we don't see cars in Fallout now is because Bethesda's endings aren't friendly with anything that has wheels.

Black Isle nor BGS wanted vehicles in for one. Two if people complain about things like marriage or companions being very close to the PC as un-RPG like you think drivable vehicles will be received warmly?

Gamebryo itself could easily have vehicles in. It's a multi-purpose engine like Unreal.

Bethesda however no longer licenses 3rd party engines and the Creation kit is more than able for vehicles.

I'm surprised by the support though in a Fallout section. Drivable vehicles in real time fully changes the dynamic of the game, especially if it's a car. Fallout will be on a one way trip to GTA/Saints Row/APB-dom.

Black Isle? Do you mean Obsidian? Cause Black Isle had the Highwayman in Fallout 2. But like you said the game engines of the new Fallout's can't handle them.

Oh no, I fully support what Avellone and Co. did with the Highwayman. Read my first post on this. Thread to get an idea of what I'd like to see.

Also no both 3/NV's modified Gamebryo and Beth's new engine can handle it. My issue is they'll be clunky/terrible.

Fallout 1 for was capable of and had rudimentry coded companions/AI. That doesn't mean they were great. I'm looking at you Ian.

Actualy that's a terrible comparison but you get what I mean.

Edit: To clarify I support stationary cars/motorcycles/vertibirds that act as fast-travel mechanisms with resource costs in return like 2's. I don't support real time drivable cars

i suppose if you want a reason they aren't in the vegas desert or dc wastes its because there is no roads, you'd have to drive like 15 mph unless you wanted to tear up your car. Maybe in the civilized west they could have such things. Also the up keep on a vehicle would be damn high.

I believe they use army trucks to transport [censored].

Ever playid fallen earth (its a fallout ripoff without the 50s style). It is what makes me want vehicles in fallout so much. Looking at it (even though the fallen earth world is bigger) then i dont see how it would be impossible in fallout. It would be fun even. Lets look at the elder scrolls, if Beth can make horses possible in those then how the fudge shouldnt vehicles be in fallout?

I haven't played Fallen Earth, but I have played Borderlands and Oblivion. The difference between all of these games and why horses work in Oblivion and vehicles work in Borderlands is simple, the way those games are played. Borderlands is meant to be a fast action game and people would get bored very quickly of the endless walking without those vehicles and Oblivion is almost entirely about exploration and adding rideable horses is another attempt by Bethesda to not alienate any of there fans(attempts that so often fail).

Fallout is all about the people you meet and the conflicts between them. If we had driveable vehicles in a sandbox map most people would speed right by small towns and random shacks on the basis that 'they weren't interesting enough'. This being said, I'm fine with the idea of cars being used to travel faster between nodes.

Let them speed by. If you ask me fast travel is boring and kills them game. So either add more random events (make them better then skyrims, they didnt looks very dinamic there after a while) or add vehicles. I would love to be able to drive trough the whole I15 just after have killed all the deathclaws.

If I'm not mistaken vehicles in Fallout 3 are running on something similar to Energy and Microfusion Cells.
First there were cars, vehicles and then they minimalised it to use it as ammo or something similar to that, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Basically if what your getting at is if there's working vehicles and ways to make vehicles run in the Fallout, then absolutely.

Can drivable or stationary vehicles be implemented? Absolutely.

Will it? Up to BGS.

Do fans want vehicles? Split. I've voiced my opinions already.

When I read alot of these posts I get the impression that most think you will be zipping around at super high speeds. That is not how a vehicle would work in a post apoc scenario.

Vehicles would be slow and armored, they would be your mobile fort if you will for exploration. Adding in vehicles like that can actually make your followers useful for something, guarding the fort!~ Also you can add in so many fun things, upgrades for security or capacity ect ect.

This idea doesnt have to be another "ruins the game, fast travel is the devil" but an interesting addition for those who wish to partake.

wouldn't that depend on the role that the vehicle would fill sure there would be a need for the "tanks" (slower, more armor & more/heavier weapons) "scouts" (faster, little to no armor, fewer/lighter weapons) would be just a likely & needed IMHO

Without a true road network the only scouting being done would have to be via hoovercraft like the eyebots or the vertibirds.

Even in new vegas with the desert there was a lot of terrain that a fast scout vehicle just wouldnt be able to traverse. I am sure if vehicles became more common there might be races ect and a road system in places near the hub ect, but in the actual wastes I dont see the speeders happening.

I could be wrong but just my opinion.

I agree about fast travel, playthroughs are so more satisfying when I vastly minimize the amount I use fast travel. I personally am highly against the idea of putting in a fast and easy way of completing the game without experiencing the true substance of it. This is something that Bethesda does, though they usually do it in the way of making your character near invincible and level scaling enemies. As I said Fallout is about the interactions and conflicts within humanity, a driveable vehicle in a sand box environment speeds up the story to the point of incomprehension. If we had vehicles in New Vegas, how many people would stop at the Mojave Outpost, Novac or Boulder City on their dash to the city?

I personally think that vehicles, unless they are used to travel in between nodes, should stay as mods.

I always wished that Fallout New Vegas’ travel system could be used by train. Of course the engine and all.. We don’t even have proper climbable ladders yet.
Who's to say vehicles won't be used in the future.

Look it doesnt have to be that they can drive across everything without problems. Example maybe the ambushes that are on the way to Vegas they would damage the vehicle and make it undriveable. That way you would have to repair it or something. I dont see the problem of adding it if people want it those that dont want to use it dont have too but many actually want vehicles and they are possible lore wise.
