You win 50 internets. I can't tell you how many times I've quoted that in the past few months.
Being the sad creature that I am, I have developed full backstories to several characters.
My main character (Steinar) has the most developed back story. An aging war hero, Steinar found himself oppressed by Imperial tax collectors who were bankrupting his estate. When the tax collector had his bodyguards beat Steinar's son after he had failed to pay his taxes on time, Steinar and his friends traveled to the capital of Skyrim to talk to the King about lowering the high taxes. However, Imperial guards refused to let him see the king, and after he attacked an Imperial diplomat, he was imprisoned and all of his friends mysteriously died in prison. Steinar managed to escape prison and headed back to his estate, only to find it completely destroyed with his family's heads displayed on pikes in front of the ruins. Steinar was arrested several months later and was immediately sentenced to execution for escaping prison. This sets up the anti-Imperial playthrough I have planned.
For my Imperial character, he is a knight that spent most of his time being pampered in Battlehorn Castle. Becoming proud of his talents, he gained the attention of the Order of the Dragon and soon joined their ranks. Shortly after, he received a message from the Grand Master telling him to come to Anvil to speak to him. Hoping that he would be offered to stay in Anvil, he left immediately. However, when he spoke to the Grandmaster, it was revealed that he wouldn't be staying in Anvil, but rather that he would be sent to Skyrim as part of a peace-keeping force. Disheartened, he waited until his deployment, but was relieved when a good friend of his was discovered to be part of his garrison. As the group traveled to Skyrim, however, his friend fell off his horse in the Jerall Mountains and plummeted to his death. Shocked, the knight rashly abandoned his fellow knights and fled into the wilderness. With no sense of direction and no skill in survival, he ventured further and further away from Cyrodiil and soon became injured in a riding accident. He was discovered by the Legion, who recognized him and had him thrown into prison. He was later sentenced to execution for desertion. This sets up the pro-Imperial playthrough I have planned.
