Why are you getting Skyrim for the PC?

Post » Mon Jul 04, 2011 10:07 am

Because I invested far too much money into my PC to not get it for my PC. <_<

I'll be buying it for the PC after the console version.. and it's definitely for the mods. I personally don't think pc games look amazingly better than console games anymore. Maybe a further draw distance and textures are a bit clearer.. but since I concentrate on story and gameplay there really won't be any significant thing to differentiate. It will simply be to mod the game and play a different way then I played on the console.

It's kinda because they don't, because most developers develop on consoles then port to PC.

Have you ever used a solid state drive in a computer?

loading times have to do with how long it takes your PC to read data from your hard drive and load it into RAM.

If you have a decent SSD, loading times for almost every game gets reduced to a couple of seconds max.

If you install a crapton of mods, it is much slower, but still, many times faster than running a game with 100s of mods on traditional HDD.

I've got to tell you. :) I LOVE my PS3. I think the graphics are beautiful and I've been playing with a controller for so long that it just feels like an extension of my hands. I don't have to think; I can just respond when I play on it.

But for a long time, I wanted to learn to mod a little, mostly use others' mods and when I got Fallout New Vegas for PS3 and saw how many problems it was having, I made the switch to PC and learned about modding. I still only know a little but that will grow. Something else I had to do was learn to play with Keyboard and Mouse and it didn't come easy but the brain can be trained.

I've made posts about this before. I have no idea how I became the hero of Kvatch on K&M in Oblivion. It must have been dumb luck but now I'm at Level 17 and making very few missed keystrokes and it's not dumb luck anymore. What I love the most is QuickSave. Oh wow, is that ever great...and I don't CTD. I also don't have to worry about the A-bomb and there's no stutter and I don't have to limit my game to 365 game days to avoid that animation bug. I have finally downloaded the Bethesda Oblivion add-ons and now I've seen Frostcrag Spire and I'm looking forward to the rest.

So what am I going to get Skryim on? PC, absolutely. I still love my PS3 for some games though. :)

Mods and better graphics than my 360, I don't really care either way for controls.

Because i like fast frame rates.
Because i like sharp graphics .
I play it through my TV.
I don't personally care for mods but i have the choice.
Mouse and keyboard for the win.
Playing with a controller just don't cut it for me. Athough i could use a ps3 controller or an xbox controller if i wish.
I used to play on Consoles but i choose not to now.
Plus i will be playing with my clan mates (on Team Speak) that iv'e been with for 7 years now :)

What is your reason?

(EDIT) No flaming please.

It's just for the mods for me: making them and playing them. Every other reason is either a "meh" or "you're completely stupid" for me.
(I'm not stating which ones make you stupid because the OP wants to keep the heat down.)

Between the mods and being able to alter what I do
note like,
and having a computer that can run it, the choice is clear.

That, and I do not have to leave the house to get the game.

The only reason that matters anymore.......Mods.

It use to be because it could offer a different experience than consoles, or even better gameplay and functioning because the Devs took advantage of the power Pc's could offer, remove seperate celled cities, AI, more content...you know..the works.

I can Dream can I?

now one has to HOPE that Modders will even get around to all that :P

Better graphics, better controller (mouse & keyboard), mods mods mods.

Mods make all games more enjoyable because you can make the game more like how you wanted it to be like (don't just sit and complain - mod it to your satisfaction) and they make the game last longer!

It's the only platform I have to play it on. If it wasn't, though, I'd still be getting on the PC. Between the modding and greater capabilities of the machine (but mostly modding), there just really isn't any other worthwhile option to me.

I don't personally care for mods but i have the choice. Who doesn't like mods?
Mouse and keyboard for the win. Indeed
Playing with a controller just don't cut it for me. Athough i could use a ps3 controller or an xbox controller if i wish. Yep, if I wanted to.
I used to play on Consoles but i choose not to now. Only play sports or fighting games on my console.
Plus i will be playing with my clan mates (on Team Speak) that iv'e been with for 7 years now :) Nope

Mods

Better performance (graphics, etc.). Much of which will be available through mods.

Better stories (mods).

Fix issues due to it being a console game (mods).

Better characters, better weather, better economy, better uh, well, probably everything. Mostly from mods.

Ummmm. Did I mention mods?

That said, all the above (tweaking the PC, installing the mods, etc.) takes time and effort. Hey, if you just want to jump in and spend a little time in a neat world, then xbox, PS3, etc. all make perfect sense. Not a big deal.

But, just in case there is any confusion, I play the PC version pretty much because of, here it comes : ) MODS

This is like asking why you are choosing steak over mutton. The PC is just offer such a better quality of game then the aging 2006 hardware of the console. Everything I get with the PC version is simply better. Better textures, better performance, better add-ons, community patches, and of course mods. I likely buy the console version for my nephew birthday but yeah I’m not gimping my Skyrim experience by playing the crappy console version.

No, not Xbox or PS3. The console one activates by pressing ~. So great for fxing nearly everything!

Higher display resolution.
Higher texture map resolution.
Higher shadow resolution.
Higher-quality shaders and particle effects.
Longer draw distance.
Quicker load times.
Better antialiasing, anisotropic filtering, ambient occlusion, post-processing, etc.
Better and more modular controls.
Mods to alter game content, crunch, interface, etc.

Basically if you have a quality PC there is absolutely no reason to go console.

Really? Should I make a "Why are you getting skyrim for ps3"-thread?

That said, I will probably be playing Skyrim on a PC closer to 2013 and only because of mods. Even then I will be using a controller, because I hate mouse and keyboard.

I'm really hoping Bethesda announces Skyrim for the Phillips CDI soon. There's really no other way to play an Elder Scrolls game once you compare it to the other versions. :P

Back on topic: Why am I getting Skyrim for the PC? Well, because my laptop is my only current system I have (unless you can call the Wii current).
