Why is Arefu hostile towards me?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 6:10 am

I always do the Blood Ties quest in the fashion of striking a deal, but this time I decided to be rude to Vance. He got angry and decided to try and kill me. He attacked me first! So I wasted them and talked to Ian. I told him that he needs to face his demons so he says hes going home but when I go to ARefu, the quest fails and says I'm now hostile. Why? The Family are just a bunch of punks who terrorize a town, what do they care that I wasted them?

The Blood Ties Quest involves both Arefu and Meresti Station. If you are hostile to one settlement, the other turns hostile to you.

I only do this after I have received a certain perk. Then, yes. :twirl:

It's a known bug. Bethesda messed up the faction relations.

That makes sense. *sigh* I get sick of helping the Family every time, but I also love experience points. Shame.

Guess radiation can affects the mind without affectin the body. They say sum jive about bein' Vampires. How stoopid is that. I help dem Arefu foos by wipin' dem Vampire jerkwads out. How they thank me? They open fire on me! Idiots!

You don't even have to do anything to have Arefu turn hostile. I have helped the family and had Alan sent to Arefu for guard duty. If he dies, even if it is none of your doing, Arefu turns hostile. In one of my files he fell off of the bridge and died by the claws of an Albino Radscorpion and Arefu turned hostile. This is certainly bad quest design that should have been fixed by Bethesda.

In general dont kill the vampires. Talk to Vance about a deal with Arefu.

Head to Arefu for update.

Go back and talk to vance.

Then kill em ALL.

Happened to me once on an older game - I think it was due to me 'cleaning out' the family's hideout. I didn't get caught stealing - that I knew of, but in any event - after that, they were hostile ever after.

I got even better. I simply slept in the house of the lucy's parents and when I got out after a little nap everyone was shooting at me. This AFTER i had already told them I was going to help them out. Dumb sons of... So I failed the quest and decided to return to megaton to see Lucy, but she seems to have disappeared. If I ever find that [censored]...

I uh... dressed her up in Sadist Armor and we are hanging out on the deck near My Megaton House. At that little table. Come over...

I sure hope you weren't there a couple of hours ago when I decided, for the first time, to blow up megaton. i'd hate to see you and poor lucy ghoulified. I decided that course of action since I couldn't for the life of me find that [censored]. Well that and the fact that I wanted to see a nice big mushroom cloud on my new TV :D

Well that's weird...I've never had any issue with the people at Arefu.

And I finally solved the mysteries of where Ian West was and who killed his parents (I won't spoil it here). It took me forever to find him. I went to all 3 locations that Evan King suggested and couldn't find anything. Then I noticed additional "comments" as I studied the West's bodies. Finally, I just happened to talk to Evan King again and he revealed to me that metro station. I went there...and lo and behold, I found the kid and solved both mysteries (I convinced Ian to come back to Arefu and leave the Family). I even got Alan to protect Arefu.

None of the people at Arefu are dead or "angry" at me. Maybe its bcuz a friend told me that I could use the dresser at Ian West's house as a place to store all the extra baggage I had and use it as player housing. As a result, I'm really careful to kill anything that attacks the people of that town! lol

On a side note...here's a weird thing I came across one day. I was near Big Town and I saw someone walking up the road...lo and behold it was Karen Schenzy, a resident of Arefu. I thought to myself..."WTF, what's she doing way out here?" It was so odd to me that she would be wandering so far away from home all by her lonesome. So I decided to follow her and just simply "protect" her. Good thing I did, too...she got attacked on more than 1 occasion and probably would've died if I hadn't been there! It turns out she walked all the way back to Arefu...have any of you come across this before??!?

Sounds crazy. There must have been a mirelurk attack, and instead of cowering in her place, she ran out. She was a love interest for a previous character, until he tried to enslave her and her head popped off. Whoops. Sorry.

I always wondered if Karen Schenzy just fell off the Arefu bridge by accident. There is a hole in the ground near her home. Wish I coulda been there to see it.

Love interest...?

Love interest as in imagination, as I'm on 360. Enslave as in, Momma's got to bring home the bacon for Jericho, Clover and Dogmeat. One or two slaves a week: Traveling Cash! And the pop, was yeah, my failed attempt at getting a slave collar on her.

The whole roleplay got sour after the 30th time she said, "That's right, leave. Just like everyone else." And then in real life I said, "[censored], I been coming back and bringin presents. Now pay for your insolence!"
