Why aren't my Workbenches shared?

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 3:25 am

I have several supply lines set up to Ten Pines and Red Rocket and the Starlight theater and Sanctuary but items in my Sanctuary Workbench are not showing up in other workbenches nor is it working the other way around.

I thought if we had supply lines the workbenches were shared between all settlements where we had the supply lines.

What am I doing wrong?

they are shared when you build something, but they don't actually show up in your workbenches

you can just 'use' the items from the other workbenches, without them actually being in the one where you are

This has confused many of us.

Only building resources are shared and only whilst building.

Specific items are NOT shared.

I thought items were shared, but only junk and aid items.

Only when you are in the build menu, not otherwise.

Alright, that makes sense. Well, the crafting menu, too.

As said above by Michlo its resources only. Fans, test tubes, pencils, tin cans etc wont transfer unless you break them down. Weapons mods also will not travel, nor any other objects you place in bench. Only basic building materials - Wood - Steel - Concrete - Screws, also food and water exchanges like carrots and excess purified water. You get the idea. Also they only go from one settlement to a connected one so just because you have a route between say Sanctuary and Red Rocket and you have one between Red Rocket and Grey Garden you wont get the resources at Sanctuary at Grey Garden unless you have a direct line.

Which means you need to have more then one main resource dump to keep things exchanging a decent amount of build items.

you don't need a direct line

having a route is enough ^^

Yeah I am not 100% sure on that as my resources vary at some settlements that are connected. Of course that could be from say a single settlement that has a large amount of some material that is only set up with say one provisoner... Yeah idk even that don't make sense as what you are saying means we only need one provsioner per settlement and they would then by default all share and I do not see that happening.

Well something I need to look into more anyways.

Nope. A+B then B+C does indeed equal A+C here.

what I mean is that this

http://attackofthefanboy.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Fallout-4-Supply-Lines.jpg

is enough to connect all settlements together ^^

you will still be able to use the junk from sanctuary on the settlement far in the east, eventhough they are not directly connected

of course every line needs its own provisioner

at least that's how all the tutorials describe it and how it seems to work out in my game :o

Well I hope that is so.. It would save me some provisoners in the future. I will have to see anyways I have a new settlement I have not done anything with and it will be easy to test this when I get on later.

Thanks for link I will look that up now.. Glad to hear about this and thanks! I have been trying to stock up three settlements with decent resources because some settlements have hit limits on me sending Provisioners there.

you cannot access any "items" from other workbenches but you can access the materials junk items provide

eg if you have a desk fan in your sanctuary workbench you cant physically take it out of you red rocket workbench but you can use the screw/metal/gears that it provides to build with (which will scrap it from wherever workbench and i believe any left over components go in which ever workbench you are at at the moment)

and i think someone already said it but you dont need to individually connect every work bench to each other

eg a supply line sanctuary to red rocket and supply line red rocket to greygarden is the same as a supply line sanctuary to grey garden

Sometimes I think you guys have a totally different game version then me.. The route rather then a direct line I still have to test for myself but already I have to say I have seen where I can build say 20 heavy turrets at one settlement but travel to another (all my settlements are connected unless they are just opened up and I have not done anything to them) and at the other settlement connected to yet another can only build say 12 heavy Turrets. So I have to further look into that route deal.

As for raw materials the Fan rather then the screw with a gear and steel or what ever will not transfer at all. Meaning to be clear on this they wont even break down the fan unless its at the settlement I am currently at. No I used to dump my pockets into workbenches and seen first hand they do not transfer.. So I don't know anything besides what I test, but on my game that don't happen and has already been tested to prove I need to break things down if I want to use them else where.

I may have posted something like;
"Supply lines pool everything" - so if that was by bad causing more confusion - I apologize.
