Why aren't you using Fellout?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:34 am

I'm preparing Fellout 1.1, the first major revision Fellout has had.

Before I release it, I want to know why some people aren't using it, so perhaps I can address their complaints.

I prefer the post-apocalyptic styles of TheOutbreak's Wasteland Moods. More dramatic, more beautiful, more intense... I never bothered to try it with Fellout, since I like how it looks now.

I also think that Enhanced Weather looks a whole lot better than Fellout, so if I were to use either it would be that.

Personally, I think it ruins a lot of the post-apocalyptic atmosphere. And, it seems to lower the visual quality for some reason.

I tried out Fellout as one of the first mod to use and I liked it.

Well, honestly; I've never really looked into it. I'm kind of color blind so the green tint thing never bothered me. Mainly because I didn't know it was there because I can't see that color. Although, since having looked Fellou tup on the nexus and looking through the pictures you have I do now see that vanilla is a different color. I've DLed it.

Can I use this mod with FWE?

As far as I know, FWE is made by Fellout users, so they wouldn't make a mod that they themselves couldn't use.

Can you be more specific about how you think it lowers the visual quality?

I can't really explain it. It probably has something to do with distant textures not loading up, and with the sky, they become more apparent. Of course, it could have something to do with my crappy computer, so I dunno.

I have not tried it, but I would if your 'darker nights' are not as black as the mod 'Darker Nights'. Its so pitch black it ruins the immersion for me since the enemies see me just fine.

The night sky looks like Shakuras.

As for baddies not seeing you, I think MMM has a system that knocks down the perception level of many creatures not endowed with natural night vision.

I've started using it the last month or so, ever since I upgraded my monitor. I don't know if a new monitor helps with performance, but it seems to have for me. The only thing I still don't understand is why I can't get the rainbow-coloured horizon that is shown in other people's screenshots. My sky is blue most of the time (not brilliant blue) but when the sun starts going down it just goes from blue to darker blue to black, no pretty colours

I use Fellout Full, and my nights are dark but not really really dark. Maybe it's the night sky mod I had before. I removed that but the stars and moon textures remained behind. The moon is large and bright. Sometimes I do need to use night vision, but only when the moon isn't around.

I guess my only gripe, as lame as it is, is that I don't ever see colourful skies around sunset. Other than that half the time I forget I'm even using it, and I haven't noticed any performance issues. I lag often but it's more due to MMM and my texture packs than anything :)

I tried out the weather mod released today and the textures were incredibly vibrant and beautiful and the clouds looked photorealistic. However, it still came with that nuclear glow and that's the reason I prefer Fellout. It's been over two hundred years since the bombs fell. The only reason the wastes are still desert is because the topsoil was blown away (hence all the exposed rock) and grass and plants have no place to grow. The sky should be almost surreal in clarity and definition because manmade interference has been cut off.

I agree with Mystyk in that it needs a little more variety in terms of transitions. And perhaps some better sky textures. But I still prefer it to anything else.

i have used fellout for a while.....then i sorta got bored of pitch-black nights, its very unrealistic, unless you have a hard time adjusting to low light levels the fallout 3 nights are actually spot on.

other than that its a nice mod

I tried it out and I liked it... in the daytime. The nights were just far, far too dark for my tastes. I know it's very realistic, what with there being no artificial lights in the wasteland, but it's too realistic and inhibits immersion. When I used it I kept thinking "Great, nights coming soon, better wait for 12 hours so I can keep exploring." Sure, I could use my pip-boy light, but I could only see so far.

My point is, if you kept the nights the same as they are in the vanilla game, I would use it again.

Guys, don't you realize there is a Fellout SOTD edition that doesn't add the pitch dark nights?

Ehhh, ya guys know the mod also come with a fellout-sotd.esp or Fellout Scared of the Dark Edition

But ya, I would agree the Full version is realistically dark (VERY dark).

EDIT: Got snipe'd, eh?

It would be nice, OP, if you mentioned that in the description of your mod for people to see before they download it. I read the Readme, but I forgot about the SOTD edition because I never saw it mentioned in the description on the nexus.

I rather like the mod. Installed it on my brothers rig couple weeks back. I was never a fan of the green hues so was happy to find your plugin. I like how the nights get dark as it give me a reason to find a safe place to wait/sleep when dusk begins to approach. I also rather like it when I emerge from a building or tunnel to have it be night out. My first thoughts are "Ok, going back the way I came!". I should have it installed on my rig tonight as I was able to fix my crashing errors tonight. Thanks for making it.

That's not what I meant. I want there to be a mention and description of it in the DESCRIPTION tab, not just 4 letters in the file description, the meaning of which is unknown to someone before downloading.

It would make a world of difference if it said:

"Warning: Fellout makes the night very dark. If you don't want it too dark, use the Scared of the Dark (SOTD) version instead."

My only complaint about Fellout is that I blew up Megaton and didn't see a hint of explosion with all my Object/Item Views jacked wide open. Fellout is the only weather/environment mod I have running so if it's not Fellout that caused it, I have no idea what else it could be.

Colorful sunsets would be nice, too.
