why can't I enchant my armor with fire enchant? : V

Im pretty sure the enchantment came from either a ring or necklace does this mean that I can never enchant armor with fire resist or do I need to disenchant armor with fire resist first?

I was under the impression that all you need is the knowledge then you can enchant anything.
