Why can't we fast travel to the Strip?

Post » Fri Nov 19, 2010 1:06 pm

Every time I want to go to the Strip I either have to sit through the excruciating Freeside loading times (which then seem to slow down all load times form there onwards), or go through 4 loading screens to get there from NCR.

Why did they not put the strip as a fast-travel accessible location??

Is there any logical reason, and is this fixable in a patch?

Yeah it's really annoying.
And it's even more annoying that to go to Silver Rush I need to go to Vegas Gate and then run 150 meters to get to Silver Rush.
They should just have a fast travel location to that part and the bar on the other street.

Yeah , in a game with so many fetch quests, you would think they'd have made the load/travel/gameplay ratio a bit better.

I literally spent around 40-50% of my time in Freeside watching loading screens.

How many saves do you have?
You should clear out your save-file folder down to your last save when traveling there.
And install the game on the console.
It really speeds up the loading screens.

I have 4 saves, I deleted the other 20 yesterday to try and speed things up. No joy :(

Have it installed too.

There should be a quick travel location marker for the New Vegas Strip North Gate. That brings you right to the door to the strip. Having one to go directly to the Lucky 38 or the Monorail station would've been nice though.

I can mod fast travel locations to the different sections of the Strip; but I won't place two fast travel spots in the cell (unless it's the main exterior cell, obviously). 1 at Lucky 38, 1 at the Tops (facing Yes Man, of course :D), and 1 at Vault 21.

I would also move the Crimson Caravan and Camp McCarren markers to be inside the zones instead of just outside the cells' gate, as well as placing a marker in the center of the Old Mormon Fort.

If you want a special one right in front of each building, you can do that yourself.

Well with all the saves deleted. I would usually do a console restart after playing for a while. Would help speed up loads as well.

Please don't speak about modding like it's available to everyone.
Some of us, like me, play on the console and don't have the virtue of the GECK.

i just wish i could use the stupid monorail! i've got mad fame with the ncr yet if i so much as peek around the corner and look at the door to the monorail, the guards open fire on me and instantly all of the ncr hates me . . . . .

maybe a sign or a simple bit of dialouge "hey this is a restricted area" but no, we're just gonna shoot you

but yea game desperatley needs more fast travel options

They really need to make two separate forums, one for consoles and one for PC. The Fallout 3 forums were littered with PC users talking down to console players. It was in nearly every single thread. One of the main reasons why I quit posting on here. Nobody cares if "there's a mod to fix that". The fact is that a Fast Travel location should already be there. That's what this thread was originally about. Last time I checked, this was the General Discussion section and not the Mod section. Adding another Fast Travel location in The Strip shouldn't be a difficult thing to bundle with DLC or a patch. I think the best area for it would be the part of The Strip with The Tops, Ultra Luxe etc. That would drop you right in the middle of it all, with The Lucky 38 one door away and The Tops and everything else right there.

I have removed elitist pc comments as well as responses to such. Please read the following rule and be sure to consider it prior to making a post. And don't accuse someone of taking up your time to post when posting is not required in any thread. You can just walk on by.

7. Flaming is not allowed.

Insulting individuals or groups of members and name calling are flames. Any remark that is made to insult another member or group of members will be considered a flame and thus you may receive a warning for it.
Calling people a troll or an apologist for instance can both be considered a flame as can calling someone stupid or ADD. Attacking Xbox players, PS3 players or PC players is not allowed and calling them "console kiddies" or in anyway indicating someone is in some way a lesser person because of their choice is considered a flame here.

I am working on the mod I said guys. Hopefully I'll be done in like 30 minutes.

Sorry console players, you have to hoof it :(

Edit: Wow... Just... Wow. Looking at the map, I am starting to wonder why there are any load screens at all between the strip sections; they are all in the same cell!

Well hopefully they'll look through some of the mods you've created and patch it in or release something similar witha DLC. ;)

Hell, maybe they will simply patch out a need to load at all by making the gates between zones just normal doors.

As I said, I am looking at the map right now, specifically the Strip's mini-world cell, and they are all linked together as one cell. I don't know why it has to load at all. It's like walking between cell sections out in the Wasteland; there's no load screens between those (god would THAT be annoying XD) so maybe I could also mod the doors to not reload the cell.

Then again... There is a LOT of action going on between the different sections. Perhaps it is to load and unload the different groups of NPCs located in the areas.

It would raise the minimum PC spec considerably if all those NPCs in Freeside and the strip were active at the same time, minimising the number of active lighting, animations, pathfinding, and AI routines in populous areas is essential for those with lower-end machines (and if the developers cut off all those with lower-end PCs it means far fewer sales too, and wide-spread disappointment amongst fans). Some people already find the Strip laggy.

I barely fast travel anywhere, I mostly use it as a way to avoid combat on the road when I'm injured, which is kind of a cheat (not calling anyone else a cheat, IMO everyone should play the way they want to and have fun). But for my own fun I might have to find a mod to disable it cos I'm a realism nut :o

Ok, my projected time is not gonna happen.

Apparently, mapmarkers and fast travel are handled differently.... Somehow.

Using the existing objects as a reference, though, I can see no difference between the vanilla markers and my new ones, except that mine have no Reputation selection. The reason is because I can't freaking select anything other than NONE. The vanilla ones can't be changed from their default, either.

Whatever the difference is, mine, for some reason, do not appear in the game nor do the ones I simply moved change location. So either my mod isn't working, or it's just not loading it-which very much could be the case since it also will not turn off the bonus DLC packages even though they are unchecked in the data options. :banghead:

EDIT: Nevermind. The REAL culprit was that it just saved a completely non-modified plugin file. When I reopened it in the geck to check stuff out, everything I added/changed was still vanilla ><

Still, I won't be able to add reputation thingies to the map markers since I have no idea how to do that and there aren't any new wiki pages specific to NV yet that I can find to school myself in that system.

As stated before I just go to the North Gate.

As for why there is no Fast Travel marker, it has to be because you have to be vetted to get into the Strip the first time or get a passport. However they could get around that as you have not discovered the Strip locations yet.

It could be that there is an end game sequence that denies you access to the strip at some point and fast traveling into the strip would mess things up. Don't know, I have not gotten that far in the game yet.

Really? Where you you end up?

Don't say outside the gate... because that's not what we're talking about here.
