Why can ghosts be killed with regular weapons?....uh, right.

There are very few ghosts in the game to fight unfortunately. But I agree, Silver, Daedric, Conjured, or Enchanted weapons should've been needed to harm a ghost. Mundane weaponry should pass through them, its part of what sets them apart from other enemies, makes them something to fear and be prepared for, and is overall a pretty common tradition since early editions of D&D and beyond that, real-life mythological lore on the supernatural aspects of silver.

Skyrim has ghosts? level 35 and I haven't seen one yet! Except for a certain quest but I didn't kill the ghost, only spoke to it. That svcks they removed the requirement of magic or silver weapons to damage them. A simple thing, but a nice reward to kill a ghost if you don't have one. Like I could sometimes take them out with my little flame spell if I spammed it enough if my character didn't have a decent weapon yet.

silver weapons still do special damage to undead. I think ghosts aren't immune to normal weapons because then silver weapons would have to be abundant, and right now silver is not easy to find at all. it's pretty much exclusively associated with the silver hand if I'm not mistaken, or maybe you can craft some yourself. So you would be pretty [censored] if ghosts only took damage from silver and above. it was okay in oblivion because the game got bloated with daedric, and silver pretty much in all stores. Both in morrowind and oblivion ghosts were slow as [censored], in skyrim a ghost is a freakin ethereal warrior, so it would be a regular dude, be that a bandit or mage, only immune to normal weapons.

Streamlining. New target audience doesn't have the patience/attention span to seek out weapons that are specially used to kill undead.

I bet they would if it wasn't limited to 1 ridiculously rare creature. I've killed over 500 animals alone in Skyrim, and if you sum up everything I've killed, it's more than 1500 "things." I've only battled 2 ghosts, as far as I can remember. They were some guys in a dungeon shouting "I"m sorry, I have no choice!"

Soooo, I think it would just be an annoyance.

And in my case it wouldn't matter anyway, since I'm using destruction/one handed equally.

I don't mind so much that they did make all weapons kill ghosts, as much as I mind the fact that they didn't do anything with the lore concerning it. In Skyrim you can still read books that mention only being able to kill ghosts with special weapons and the like, but then you can walk out the door and use an iron dagger on one. That's contradicting.
