Why can't we keep a journal on the console versions?

Hey, I recently made a hunter character which I like to roleplay on, I play on the 360 version. I'd love to keep a journal in game or even just have some notes of places I've been, animals I've killed, undiscovered locations etc. Due to not having any kind of item we can use to scribe on or keep notes I just make a word document or a document of Google Docs which I save and that I can go back to whenever I need. I also have the Skyrim font downloaded on my PC (which can't run Skyrim) that I use for my journals. I find keeping this "journal" adds more of an immersive feeling to the console versions making it as much like the immersive PC mods but on console.

I heard that in the remastered version coming out in October, they might have some kind of mod just like the "Take Notes" mod on the PC which allows you to keep a journal.

I already have about 8 days written out in my Word Document journal, I also have a journal for my bounty hunter character, which I wish we could get a mod or something like the PC version which you can actually hunt individual people, but on console I either make up my own contracts with a story of how they got the bounty or I stick with the classic bandit bounties.

I'll show you my first entry of the hunter journal which may give you some ideas of how you might start something like this.

Turdas, 4th of Hearthfire, 4E 201

I have been let out of Helgen after being caught after trying to cross the border from Cyrodiil to Skyrim. They let me out with my hunting gear at least. After the Great War, most of the stags and game fled to the other countries while most of then went to Skyrim, the reason I'm here.I should head over to Riverwood, a small village near Helgen. There, I should gather some simple supplies like food and water, no mead tonight although I deserve one. I'm going to rent a room at the inn and stay the night, hopefully I'll be able to catch a good ole stag and have that for supper.

There's a lot more to it than that but I didn't want to bore you. After that small entry finished I did exactly what my journal said I'd do, bagged some game and slept at the inn again, the next morning I travelled to Whiterun and sold off some pelts I collected along the way.

Be sure to post some things that you were doing or even discuss the journal idea a little further. I'll make sure to reply to as many people as I can.

Not even the PC game had that kind of a journal. Through mods maybe, but not built into the original game. Also, most people don't think of keyboards really with regard to console systems. Making entries into a journal would be quite tedious without one

I'm not sure if the PC journal mod requires Skyrim Script Extender. If not, then you quite possibly could have that option for such a journal on Skyrim Special Edition when it comes to PS4, XBox One, and PC. Skyrim Special Edition will have mod use capability

What happened to the days when if a player wanted a journal for game that they actually wrote a journal for their game?

I remember drawing my own maps, writing journals, taking notes (crafting recipes), and jotting down glitches.

I had one of my USB keyboards plugged into my 360 for a while. I used it so I could use the web browser more like I do with my computer. With no mouse support though I found it slightly annoying. I had hoped that Microsoft was going to allow mouse and keyboard support with game titles if publishers wanted it. I imagine that fairly soon, keyboard and mouse will be supported by next generation consoles in the future. But by then unless things seriously change for consoles, like full mod support I will most likely be gaming on PC.

I used to do that with a fountain pen and a leather bound journal when I first started playing Oblivion. Then I got lazy. But I still have some nice journals that I read every once in a while.
