Why can't we lay down?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 4:23 pm

I was thinking, and being able to lay down in Brink would be extremely useful. There's no real way to take cover, and because of how closed-in the maps are running away from fire just doesn't work. Given how freedom of movement is a big thing in Brink with the SMART system and such, why can't we lay down to take cover? Most objects are too short to crouch behind, but laying down it would be a perfect way to avoid damage. Who else thinks it would be good if SD added this?

Do you seriously think that laying down would fit in a game as face paced as this?!?

At times. Sure, often it may not be the best idea, but crouching slows you down as well. It'd be more for those emergency moments where you don't have enough health to survive an escape and standing there will still get you killed.

No. Simply put prone does not belong in brink. Crouch is fine for cover, along with being able to lean around corners you can take cover on nearly anything.

Well, slide is nowhere similar to going prone. Slide is a temporary evasive maneuver, whereas going prone is actual cover taking.

For a fast paced game like BRINK going prone wouldn't fit, IF there were many escape-routes.
But instead of adding prone, Splash Damage should rather tweak the maps in that regard.

And I can't imagine a Heavy going prone.

In any case, what benefit would prone even give a player in BRINK? I remember having an argument about prone in the Bad Company forums and that was understandable why people wanted prone... but in BRINK? Don't you think going prone would actually.. not benefit.. a player instead?

Temporary evasive maneuver that could get you into cover.

I don't mind if they add prone, though. Easier kills I guess..

I think your confusing prone for the black ops manuver hrhr.

I have to agree with the people saying it would be useless, and I would also like to add that It would just encourage camping.

I can't think of a single situation where the ONLY way to survive it is laying down. Your either near cover, which makes sliding or sprinting help, or your out in the open, which means your still screwed, even if laying down...

Going prone is the opposite of what BRINK is all about; mobility.

Prone is good for camping and nothing more. In a game where a law of survival is "NEVER stop moving!", prone sounds like a bad idea.

I go prone all the time. Run, run, run, slide turn (prone), run, run, run, slide turn (prone), run, run, run, slide tackle (prone), shoot, shoot, shoot, run, run, run...

i dunno, if you made it a light body type feature and it made your accuracy go up a whole 1/4 i think snipers would love it...but only light type exclusive so it doesnt get over used...

There are no sniper rifles in the game. I see light rifles... but no sniper rifles.

Those "light rifles" are the sniper rifles. Well...they're more marksman rifles. There is no real need for a dedicated sniper rifle in a parkour game.

Yes, I know. I just think it was clever or SD to call them light rifles instead of sniper rifles. That way, people don't complain that their "sniper" rifle doesn't kill in one hit (See: BC2, MOH, Homefront)

prone wouldn't be useful. from what i've seen there are far too many players thinking this game is anything BUT brink. i'm sick of watching people set up as snipers on the other side of expansive obstacles when the operatives need to claim an objective...they need to ditch weapons to claim these objectives yet theres a bunch of engineers and medics standing around on a balcony sniping. get down there and defend the operatives...you get EXP FOR STANDING THERE. let alone actually protecting us.
