Why Can't I Move in the Workshop Mode.

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2016 3:34 pm

I use arrow-keys as well. Always have always will.

What I do to get around this is assign a nearby key to auto-move, and use that to move forward. Yes you can only move forward but I just accept it and use the mouse to turn about if I want to go backwards or something, but it helps me not have to re-assign keys whenever I enter build mode.

If you don't know what auto-move is exactly, just press it once and you won't have to keep it held to move forward. Press it again to stop.

The movement keys for workshop mode are the same as whatever you mapped for movement in game mode. The arrow keys default to item selection in workshop mode, so if you map the movement keys to the arrows then you have a conflict. I always map arrow keys to movement in every game I buy, so this was a big problem for me too. Fortunately, F4SE comes with a CustomControlMap.txt file where you can remap everything. For example, I currently have the workshop item selection keys remapped to NUM3, NUM5, NUM6, and NUM9.

A5m0d3us > Thanks, and this may be a better solution, but 1st I'll check out RickerHK's suggestion. Where would I find the CustomControlMap.txt file? And what do I need to edit?

Many, many thanks to you helpful Wanderers!

If you want to move with your right hand then I suggest using IJKL.

The J is a home key, so usually has a little nub on the key to home your fingers.

In Fallout, there are keys that can't be changed (like WASD for VATS, AD for lockpicking, R for recycle), so using IJKL does mean a bit of moving your hand around.

can,t use them keys or the wasd keys, i,m so use to playing games with the arrow keys, i just can,t play a game any other way, wasd keys are just too bunched up and the arrow keys are perfect, mmmm just looking at it the home, delete, end, page down keys are similar to the arrow keys and i know that these keys move when you in build mode i may give them a go, i,ll let you know may be good for other uses that use the arrow keys. :brokencomputer:

ok i changes the keys from arrow keys to the home = forward, delete = strafe left, end = backwards and page down = strafe right, and they seem to work just like the arrow keys because the kinda aliened like them, and they move around even when in your workshop mode, so building is a little better now by far, this is the best way for me until they ever get a fix to it.
