Why can't pregnant women fight?

Post » Sat Feb 13, 2016 11:53 am

I think it is bizarre that pregnant women don't fight when your base is under attack. It is just perpetuating the idea that pregnant women are helpless. Seriously pop-culture got over this a long time ago. From Dawn in Series 7 the Contenders to Sydney Bristow in Alias to Ellen Ripley in Alien through to Gwen Cooper in Torchwood pregnant women have kicked [censored]. Why is this game treating women like they can't fight for the duration of their pregnancy?

because unlike in movies, women carrying child is not allowed to participate in activites with their life on the line for reproducing obviously. Old civilizations had it like that for centuries.

It's a strategy game, i dont see the problem. You will get a new dweller as a result and you will get some temporary disadvantages.

and in the 50's and 60's (and keep in mind in Fallout society never went PAST this point culturally) Women were very much protected from doing anything strenous or likely to hurt them.

Fallout Shelter is trying to replicate life within the vault.. you are lucky they let the pregnant women in the game get assigned to work duties!

Since pregnant women can't die in game they probably made it so you couldn't make them fight since they'd be no threat to them.

It wouldn't be long before people had a army of invincible pregnant women defending their vaults.

Well when children are under attack they do often defend themselves... Les Miserable showed kids doing it in 1836! But the key difference of course is that pregnant women are advlt human beings who are fully recognised as having agency as independent human beings. If you want to see someone fight hard, you see a woman trying to protect her offspring as this scene in the mini series Hyde makes clear https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6c8hfWEsEM8love is a psychopath.

Pregnant women having agency and defending themselves "not right"? That is some chauvinist BS. Thankfully the latest Mad Max wasn't so patronising.
