Why couldn't I kill Serana at first sight?

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 3:20 pm

Ok, let me get this straight. I just joined a group of people dedicated to eradicating vampires. I find a vampire older than the empire carrying one of the most powerful artifacts in Tamriel and .... I escort her back to her castle so she can deliver said artifact to a vampire even older and more powerful than she is. I'm sorry, but thats stupid. I should have either been able to kill her immediately or she should have escaped on her own and not needed my help. Sorry Bethesda, but it just doesn't make sense at all. I like the crossbows and all, but so far, this story is stupid.

It would be different if I wanted to be a vampire, but if you want to be a "good" guy the start to this DLC is just plain dumb. And makes no sense at all.

She's leading you to a stronghold full of vampires. You have the mindset that you're about to stab her and her father in the back. (Or whatever you want to RP)

While I dont think the start was "dumb", I do agree it doesnt make sense. Firstly, if you want to be a vamp, you got to join the vampire hunters, and as a hunter, you have to hand deliver the "dracula" of skyrim his daughter AND a frikkin elder scroll. Even though Serana brings it back, that is a little weird. I like to think my character wasn't thinking straight due to Serana's breas- er, charm...

My "mindset" would be to keep the vampires from getting an elder scroll. I (my character) knows what an elder scroll is. He's also a dedicated worshipper of the Nine. There is no way my character would allow Serana to take that Elder Scroll anywhere. I should have been allowed to decapitate her as soon as that monolith thing opened up.

The fact that she was a young looking attractive female that asked you to be her escort was part of her vampire charm powers I think.

I'm not trying to be antagonistic. it just seriously made no sense for my character to help Serana at all. Ever. No matter how hot she is. I really think Bethesda dropped the ball on this one.

But what can you expect? Its not Morrowind.

The best anology I can come up with is this:
My character is a Navy SEAL tasked to kill terrorists. I find a terrorist carrying a nuclear bomb. So instead of killing the terrorist, I escort him to his hideout and help him deliver the bomb to his superiors. Then I have the option of either joining them, or leaving.

It MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL.

I didn't quite understand this either. The character just escorts her home without any clue in his head that it might be a bad idea.

I guess you have to tell yourself that your character was "charmed" or something into helping her. In fact that would probably be the official explanation if there ever was one.

At that point the Dawnguard had no idea why vampire attacks were increasing. They didn't know their enemy or their numbers. It would be foolish to kill your one lead on the subject, rather than let her show you were the enemies home base is.

Probably because you didn't know she was a vampire until she told you, and then used the vampire charm thingy like how Vampires in other stories can control people's will so they can eat their bloods. Probably.

Or you're just make terrible decisions.

At the very least Isran should kick my dude out of the Dawnguard for gross incompetence or something. But, for some strange reason, I have a feeling I'll be running them at the end of the DLC.

Dont worry then. At the end u dont get jack [censored]. Not even a pat on the back, and Isran still runs the place. The journey is where its at for me anyway though. And what a journey it was.

Why kill one where she can lead you to where they all rest then you can kill them all

I couldn't kill any of them. And, to me, the risks of her escaping with an Elder Scroll outweigh the rewards of following her to her lair and killing the rest of them. There is literally no logical reason for my character to allow her to walk out of that crypt with that scroll.

Because she is literally your only lead when it comes to discovering what the vampire's overall strategy is, and without her, you'll basically be fighting a war blind against very powerful enemies, which is not a good idea. Overall, the benefits of following her outweigh the potential harm she could do, especially since that one Elder Scroll proves to be only a part of what they need.

but think about it you only know about the plot because of non ingame influences. the dovakin has no idea they have a larger plan for the scroll

Another issue I have with the start of this questline:

Why is Serana even talking to me at the start? If she had really been imprisoned in that tomb for 40 centuries without feeding she should have been damned near feral with hunger after I freed her. The only thing she should have done when she saw my character was attack me at first sight, not ask for my help.
