Why couldn't the enclave just destroy the brotherhood of ste

[before you read - SPOILER ALERT!]

I never understand this, why they couldn't just kill the brotherhood of steel by using the orbital missile? They used it against Optimus Prime and obviously the enclave have the BOS base on target as well, why couldn't they just do it in the beginning?

The number of missiles is limited. Is it really worth it to spend on a single BoS outpost? Liberty Prime was a serious threat. The BoS without it is not.

That was always a sort of a big plothole for me as its suggested (if you choose to blow up the citadel) that the East Coast Brotherhood is no more..

However my reasoning for it was that the Enclave felt they could defeat the Brotherhood without using an orbital strike and thought that if they could do that it would be a waste to destroy the pentagon and the technology and info that it contained.

Still though, a push of a button and the Enclave would have won.... :glare:

I dunno know, they obiviously had enough missiles for both AFB and the Citadel, if you went the evil route...but I guess you could credit it to the Lone Wanderer infiltrating the mobile base crawler in time

Im really more concerned with why the Enclave High Command (in their great wisdom) decided to point a missle at the Platform in the first place....I suppose it wouldn't be a bad idea for a self destruct sequence but still, probably should have put the terminal to access it in a sealed room somewhere, not in an area where apparently anyone could use it...

Take the comand first, then the weapon.

The Weapon was aimed at Liberty Prime, in the Satellite facility, on the other end of teh Wasteland. It takes time to reposition the oribital strike. You find a scientist with a holotape(or maybe a terminal near the launch commands) that state that it is almost ready to destroy the Citadel. That is why you could not fire on Rivet City or Megaton. I'd assume the Sattelite covered a large longitude, and a short latitude.

The Enclave is Xenophobic, and only recruits from itself. Spies could not get in, and they did not assume that someone would kill over 100 guards in power armour.

I think though that there was enough lore to suggest that there were some enclave desenters within the ranks though, I guess I was more referring to the fact that the terminal was just out in the open and not locked so any innocent Lieutenant who set his coffee down on the wrong area could accidently hit a button and blow the place to kingdom come : :ahhh: :nuke:

There is a confirmation first, so accidents are rare. Besides, I doubt anyone low ranking would have access to the satellite tower, and they would probably have to go through a lot of checks before going up.

Enclave where recruiting form the wasteland, when you reach the crawler you see a guy who asks not to kill you and he says he was recruited by the Enclave. Enclave is recruiting intelligent/smart people out there. I believe Liberty Prime was a weapon with a consciousness ( It actually believed all the Anti commie remarks it made :celebration: ).. Even if the Citadel was destroyed Liberty prime would be very much active and cutting through any Enclave remnants..

If i saw a raider with a fatman, i would first try to shoot the fatman of his hand and then shoot the raider, pretty much what the Enclave did..Especially if the fatman has its own conscience..

And for lore sake i would not believe the lone wanderer killed 100 Enclave guards in power Armor including the Elite Sigma squad. IF a story was ever made of this, it would be more like the lone wanderer infiltrated the base to reach the command console. That would be true coz we see BOS troops attacking the Enclave from the east of the AFB to attract Enclave troops to give us time to reach the panel.. (Kinda like LOTR when the ring reaching the mountain and destroying the ring). Besides that you also know by talking to that Mechanic guy on the ground floor that there where not as many Enclave troops as there once where. That what i did, used a Chinese stealth suit to infiltrate the crawler, reached the panel without killing anyone inside.( I honestly feel bad for all the female Enclave scientists)

It's pretty easy to figure out. Then the "bad guys" would win and the shiny white knights would be toast. So then gamesas writers would panic since there is no good guys to force you to join! :P

Yeah I was cringing the whole way through the main questline the first time I played through, since from the onset I wanted to side with the Enclave, I was hoping something would manifest with Eden asking you to be his "successor to Autumn" but nope....

Then I decided to get mods and do something about that...

Writing isn't really a strong point of fallout 3 , fallout 3 does have a decent storyline but rather bad writing and kinda linear story.. FalloutNV writing in fallout3 world = Awesomest game ever

Having clean water is important, even for the Enclave. Remember when President Eden was telling everyone about how the Enclave now had the water purifier and was ready to give clean water to the entire Capital Wasteland?

Plus, would Enclave even know about Liberty Prime? Maybe the Enclave was also not too worried about the Brotherhood of Steel?

Or maybe, just maybe, if the Enclave immediately attacked the Citadel, there would be less stuff to do in the game?

I used Enclave commander and spawned about a dozen or so Enclave troops in the Citadel they murdered everyone pretty quickly with only a few deaths. Naturally the Invincible guys managed to pull out the win by virtual of doing a tiny bit of damage each time before dieing for the nth time. So yeah All the Enclave would have had to do was roll in with a few vertibirds and mow everyone on the roof down then land in the courtyard and drop off troops instead of camping at the purifier.

The Citadel i.e the Pentagon contains huge amount of tech and data collected over the years by the BOS ... By destroying Prime and securing the purifier they could easily move in to destroy the BOS and take the Citadel and its tech for themselves...

Pre war tech is a very very VERY costly thing to waste....

@Andaius: Most of the BOS in the citadel have assault rifles/Chinese assault rifles while in enclave commander they are armed with gattling lasers /pulse rifles and Laser rifles ... Kinda heavily one sided fight..

I would suggest one or more of the below :P :

1) Because Enclave are less inteligent
2) Enclave hesitation
3) BOS/lone wanderer taking initiative away from Enclave
4) Extremely weak leadership
5) No one left to take over from Autumn who failed miserably within minutes of taking power!
5) Over confidence
6) Enclave realised their whole ethos is flawed and wrong and just allowed themselves to be defeated (better than suicide)!
7) Isolation for so long has made them weak
8) Superior tech doesn't garantee victory (real life history repeats this over and over again)
9) Enclave are evil and evil deserves to lose muhahahaha :)

Doesn't that make it all the more likely that they should be all dead anyway if the Enclave just attacked. I know the "real" Enclave of FO 2 would have wiped them out right away. They sent a Vertibird assault team after you for just connecting to there com system in FO2! :P

I would have to refute all or nearly all of these points...so let the debate begin! :toughninja:

1.) I see no reason to consider the Enclave less intelligent, any faction who has the most advanced technology in the wasteland and is developing (yes developing, not scavenging the wasteland for tech like the brotherhood) obviously is "intelligent" in many respects.
2.) I would have to partly agree with you here but thats the whole point of this debate, why didn't the Enclave just sweep in? It doesn't make sense given their technological and military manpower (and the very poor security in the citadel....) why they didn't just hand the Brotherhood their walking papers. Simple answer: the writing of the story wouldn't let them
3.) Hmm? I don't understand, if anything the Enclave took more intiative than the brotherhood by securing the purifier. Elder Lyons responded to the Enclave's attack, and they didn't seem to think the Enclave was a threat..until the Enclave had already swooped in.
4.) President Eden + Colonel Autumn= Two of the finest commanders I have ever seen (in a game). Don't see how they are weak.. (yes they had a disagreement but so did Lyons and the Outcasts)
5.) In broken steel we have a reference to an "Enclave High Command" so yes there were people to take over from Autumn and Eden.
5.) Why shouldn't they be confident? If anything their prolonged isolation suggests that they wanted to make sure they were ready (and were therefore not overconfident)
6.) Nope don't see that... no evidence that the Enclave decided to self-destruct
7.) Nope, if prolonged isolation turns you into a highly advanced military power with the only source of airpower (vertibirds) then I dont see a weakness there.
8.) No it doesn't.....but it sure helps (alot). There have been times in history where the "less advanced" military has won (often due to a war of attrition), but 90% of the time if an army is technologically superior in tactics and armaments....they win.
9.) Brotherhood are misguided religious fanatics who deserve to lose muhahaha! :gun:

Okay /end Enclave rant :whistling:
