If you could side with the Enclave, the Capital Wasteland would be wayyyyy different.

Yes.
The Capital Wasteland would be cleansed of all the befouling traces of deserters (BoS), vigilantes (Regulators), raiders, mercenaries, and mutants.
The Capital Wasteland would be made safe for all Good Pure And Proper American Citizens.

That wouldn't necessarily need to be shown. Besides, if Broken Steel hadn't happened, it could have all been explained in the ending slides.

I am pretty sure that the official game guide states that Autumn has openly rebelled against Eden because Eden has selected you (an outsider) to release the virus into the purifier, potentially causing the death of millions. Autumn doesn’t want the purifier spiked. . .yet. That is why Autumn orders your death, even after Eden gives you safe pass, and why his robots attack humanoid enclave troops (who are loyal to Autumn not Eden).

I always thought that you cannot join the Enclave because Autumn is hostile to you as an outsider and Eden no longer has effective command and control. I also do not believe that Autumn has any loyalty to Eden, as he countermanded Eden’s direct orders, and his comments about “continuity” refer to the enclave’s “rightful” claim to the wastes, not loyalty to Eden’s command.

You can't side with the Enclave because F3 has a linear main storyline. You CAN aid the Enclave in the end, though. Simply deploy the virus without Broken Steel loaded. You die, BS never happens, and the Enclave simple waits until everyone (including the BoS) has been poisoned, then takes over the wasteland.

In the end, you can aid several factions (Outcasts, Treehuggers, Slavers, Tenpennyites, Lamplighters, Megatonners, others), but for the main quest, you have to work alongside the Brotherhood. If you don't like it, just don't do the main quest: roam the wasteland with your follower of choice while your dad wanders around Tranquility Lane sniffing fire hydrants.

Autumn didn't want to deploy the virus....he wanted to use the Purifier as the foundation of a military dictatorship over the Wasteland, bascially making himself a high-tech Ashur without the charisma. They really don't explain the point of Autumn rebelling over Eden's interest in the LW. It makes perfect sense if Autumn knew what Eden was going to ask the LW to do, but when you confront him with it at the Purifier he refuses to believe it and if you show him the FEV vial he starts trying to rationalize it away by saying you stole it somehow. Why he doesn't even try to recruit the LW mystifies me a bit.....I can only surmise he considers the LW too great a threat or figures the LW would never forgive him for his involvement in his father's death.

Exactly, it was a half-arsed way to get the LW in on the whole MORAL CHOICES aspect and yet still have a big gunfight in Raven Rock.
