Why Crytek Can't Change Anything

Post » Sun Apr 14, 2013 7:41 am

I see everyone on the forums saying they want things to change. They want the SCAR's laser sight removed, they want auto armor changed or removed, they want certain modules to be buffed or nerfed, they want weapons to fundamentally change.

But let me tell you why none of this is possible: Crysis 3 was a AAA game. Triple A games are (usually) played by a large number of players with different tastes. It's not logical for a development team to remove an entire aspect and playstyle from a game because a certain group of players doesn't like it. It's just not possible. You pay $60 for a game and you expect to be playing that game. Not a game that is fundamentally different because of a patch. Developers can't just remove auto armor or maneuverability. That would not only turn off a lot of players, but it would change the core gameplay of Crysis 3.

Crysis 3 has a smaller fanbase than was expected. And think how many fans run auto armor and a SCAR with a laser sight. A lot, right? Well, if you removed both of those, wouldn't you expect those players to, more likely than not, quit? A lot of them just don't want to learn how to play another style after running with their setup for so long. They might give up and move onto another game. If Crytek were to change the way their game is played at a core level, they'd lose a lot of the players that they're already desperate to keep.

Even though we all hate auto armor, scar + laser, the AR's close range damage multiplier, etc. we all know deep down that they'll never be changed. It's too risky as a developer to change your game this much. There's no way that they'd go so far as to make a game-changing patch after release. That was what the beta was for. Now, there's just no chance that we'll see massive changes in the way the perks and weapons work. Sure, we'll see balance changes, but nothing too significant. Because at the end of the day, thats how game development works.

Because Crytek has a master plan and will not allow us to interfere with it.

Right, lets ignore balance issues because someone might quit if crytek nerf scar which obviously needs it, that surely works for league of legends "lets not nerf release xin, people might quit !". Balance is something you NEED to do and im pretty sure that because of balance issues more people left already.

Balance patches need to come fast when it comes to FPS games, wait like crytek did and see what happend. Scar should have close range damage nerfed within first week and point blank insta gibs should also be removed, no one would miss that but hey we can always wait and balance it when there are 100 players left at which point its not worth it so we will just not release another patch !

Like I said, there's a difference between balance and changing the whole game. I think the damage increase should be removed for sure. But you can't just get rid of a laser sight or auto armor. That's not possible.

So, by what you′re saying, they shouldn′t fix expanded arsenal cause too many players use it and abuse the 4 jaws glitch, if it get fixed players that use such setup would quit.

The tap fire glitch should not be fixed cause it′s used by a lot of players.

As for Auto Armor aka Auto Noob it′s a perk that gives huge advantage, go check the leaderboards. Those players with insane kdr use auto armor all the time.

Auto armor shouldn′t be in the game in first place, suit got so simplified and easy to use and even with all of that they introduce a perk that removes even more the skill-gap/learning curve.

You're mixing up what I'm saying here. I'm not saying that they shouldn't fix bugs. I'm saying that they can't remove auto armor or any perks because they're meant as part of the game. There's a difference between bugs and core game mechanics.

I don′t want them to remove any perk or gun, i want glitches fixed and some re-balance in AA and other things.

Glitches need to be fixed, I didn't think I had to state that, I thought it was implied that bugs shouldn't be in the game. As for AA, I remember a Crytek developer saying on a topic during the beta: "This surely won't be the last AA debate, trust me ;)" That probably means its not getting changed. Ever.
