Why is Cyrodiil no longer a jungle?

What in the name of Tiber Septim could've cause it to go from Jungle with a rain forest center to a temperate region?

^ ------ that....makes...so much sense... for a scape goat lol.

Bethesda merely didn't design it as such...or maybe the representation of a *jungle* is different in The Elders Scrolls

Maybe Beth aren't capable/can't be assed to follow their own lore.

Seems more like it.

I believe there is an answer in the lore http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Mythic_Dawn_Commentaries_3.

Because outside of the in-game books Oblivion makes no contribution to elder scrolls lore.

No, it did, it just did less so than Morrowind did.

Which only validates the obscure text already linked to.

Yes, I believe Oblivion gave us most of our Amulet of Kings lore, so it wasn't a total waste.

I favor an extreme climate change model that begins with the freezing of Atmora, continues with further cooling that drives humans toward the equator, breaking the backs of elvish empires, and ends with Cyrodil a temperate land. (There are yet tropical areas further south; I imagine the actual equator runs between the southernmost reaches of Tamriel, or perhaps through the southernmost tip of Elswyr, and Pydonea.)

Maybe the hole made by Magnus is gradually shrinking, until one day it will close? Perhaps all the Mundus is doomed to die an icy death?

Note that it wasn't the malevolent developers of Oblivion that introduced a temperate Cyrodil. That honor belongs to the writer of A Dance in Fire.

So then the current Cyrodiilians wouldn't remember when Cyrodiil was a jungle?

I'm sure they would. Recall the Tribunal apotheosis. Some still remember when they weren't gods.

Same thing with this I suppose. While this deals more with CHIM, i think you can still apply the same logic. You probably wont here anyone in TES IV mention it because of development reasons.

What farms? It doesn't even give the illusion of widespread farming. Not even sustenance farming for that matter. Kitchen gardens maybe, but those gardens are a far out of the way if you want some fresh tomatoes.

Why am I here? I promised myself not to argue this point any more. Oh well, nobody forgives me as much as I do.

Oh I'm sure Maiq has all his ribbin' planed and practiced for the next chapter, but this is unlikely as he seems to only give commentary pertaining the chapter he's in.

Also, what 946000 said.

@egypt raider- They do say that, and these retcons are not mutually exclusive.

@wolf- We all know that Oblivion is a [censored] farming sim. There's a mod to fix this, but mods are non cannonical

its a temperate rain forest, maybe. they have em. i live about 50 miles from one. just cause theres no palm trees or jaguars doesn't meen its not a jungle. But, in oblivion, the south is kinda jungle like, and NPC's mentioned that most of the area near the IC was cleared away.

And some people are forgetting that rainforest doesn't always mean tropical. We have rainforests here in canada, after all.

Even if you want to weasel about the rainforests in Washington, everything that accompanied the word 'jungle' was also jettisoned. Rice and textiles? I don't think so. And you don't even need to be subtropical (a word used to describe current Blackwood btw, so no temperate rain forests, sorry) to grow that stuff.

There are times where I seriously wonder if the old writers just lost it in the middle of the office, screaming about wildly and knocking over watercoolers yelling, "It's wrong! All wrong!"

Back on Topic: I think a very large dwemer robot had something to do with it.

Actually, the old writers all got booted from the studio after Morrowind. Except for Todd Howard.

Although I think Ted Peterson and MK wrote some things for "Oblivion", as freelancers. MK definitely did, for the Mythic Dawn writings and Mankar Camoran's speeches. Ted would have written the PGE 3rd and other in-game books.
