Why did the PC get Dedicated servers while we didn't?

Post » Thu Nov 19, 2009 4:38 am

I'm sorry if this has been discussed but I'm just wondering why we never got them and the PC players did, this game is amazing on a good connection so why did we get handed the **** end of the stick - so to speak-?

Because Console gamers are of a fickle breed. Why give Dedicated servers when in few weeks when the youthful vermin that prowl X-box Live are bored of being beaten by the big boys at a game they scarcely understand, they will go back to Call of Duty

Saddening to say this about my fellow community but it just seems to be the way of the Gamersphere.

If a computer is powerful enough to run a good game of Crysis 2, Then its a fairly dedicated machine for gaming. Unlike at least 50% of the x-box live community. God I those kids so much!

If Homefront can get servers than I am 100% sure Crysis should have, also if the game has dedicated servers and plays on an even playing field then they tend to keep their players playing for longer and longer.

They get dedicated servers because they won't buy the game if it doesn't have servers. Xbox children will buy it anyway. I bought it thinking it would have servers like most of ea games.

Dont bring up Homefront. That Game is the worst FPS I have seen cranked out of studio for a while. The ded servs for that is an attempt to make up for the hundreds of downfalls that game has. And the hype it got..... Ugh sickening

I imagine if Crytek/EA spot a continued flow of players, they would consider ded servs. But Until then you just have to stick with the sometimes questionable connections... And stay away from Homefront, Dont encourage a sequel.

its simple when people stop paying for xbox live and its services company's and MS will start to use them, until then not many games will use them as they think they wont need to, as you pay for a service that isnt worth it at all, think its time for gamers to say hey we deserve more for our money!

as so far we are saying 'hey its ok for games to use P2P set ups' as im getting sick of spending my hard earned cash for broken **** games... and them gettin away with it.

I enjoyed Homefront, that's not the point though, this game having servers is.

PC players should not get servers if we don't how is that fair? I really would love a Dev to post in here and explain.

That's consoles for you, the playerbase long ago made it obvious to publishers like EA and Activision that they didn't need or were willing to fight for dedicated servers, so why bother.

And can we please have a thread where the second post isn't an insult about Call of Duty?

Because we arn't vocal like the pc crowd. PC players demand dedicated servers. Console players punk out and shell out for whatever they give us.

The PC crowd is vocal and loud, sure, but they also have the capacity the set-up servers of their own should the need arise. Publisher are notorious for not wanting to relinquish control, so they indulge. The console crowd is no less loud and a lot rude, but they have no power to push the publishers. Basically as customers, the console gamers are completely at the mercy of the publishers and game studios. Right where they want us.

Having said that, it really inexcusable for EA to not give console dedicated servers. Even if the EA servers are what they are.

Yea i was also expecting dedicated servers with it being an EA title. Considering Xbox is where they have made practically all there money from in this game we should get something like dedicated servers.

always figured it was cost and return.... and rules from MS.

Basically:
1) MS is REALLY reluctant to allow outside hardware to their network... and that includes company servers. This is why Halo 3 was the first server-based game on the 360.
2) As someone already said, most games die out online within a few weeks to a few months as people go back to the age old argument of playing the latest halo or the latest CoD. SOME usually stay behind if it's descent, but not nearly enough for the company to warrant spending to keep a server running. They know the odds.

To placate the PC users? A very large and even more vocal portion of the PC community are elitist dikes, if they don't have enough extras to make them feel superior to console users they will nerd-rage en masse.

Its p2p... Bungie is using there own servers for STATS and FileSharing, but not for the ingame hosts...

This is why I bought the PC version and tried to play it with the 360 controller. The they took aim assist out and now I get fed. So I traded my Black ops straight across for crysis 2 for 360. I played it for 4 games and had 2 bars is all of them and the lag was ridiculous. So I have 2 copies of crysis 2 and they both svck to play LOL. Thanks crytek you guys are the best........ :(

In my opinion, probably because Crytek/EA can provide a few. Then on the other hand, the community itself (PC) version can go to places like midnightgaming, or clanwarz and purchase servers for themselves. 360 Players cannot purchase dedicated servers.

Purely because as a PC gamer we have always demanded dedicated servers for our games so we can play them the way WE want to. Its not so much so we can use EA servers, its more so we can buy our own servers for games and host matches whenever we want with our own rules, maps etc, and without wanting to cause a flame war, we are more dedicated to our gaming.

Take Battlefield 2 for instance it was released in 2005 and people still buy/rent servers for it because they love the game that much that they want to keep it alive. As pointed out previously by someone, console gamers tend to hop between games every month except for COD and Halo.

Not all of us, there's some of us who want to see our hard earned cash being productively used. We pay for xbox live, and we pay to play our games online. Why should you, the pc community, get all the good stuff and we get craqepd on when we pay to play our games \online and pay for a service from microsoft. Do you pay 60 bucks a year or more to play your precious fps' online? No, we do so get over yourselves about you're so much better then us. We shelled out the 60 bucks for the game as well so we should be getting dedicated servers. Get your heads out of your asses and look at our games compared to yours. Your quality is generally better because the pc can support better graphics AND longer games. You can have a game be 50 gigs let's say and be 50 hours long. Same game goes to console it's going to be either multiple discs, at least 3, or it'll be maybe 20 hours long. We have size limitations. A lot of us can't afford to spend 1500+ on a gaming rig OR we prefer to have lan parties with our friends and we all get xbox's or ps3's. Consoles are easier to transport then a pc. We like to get 15 people together and kick the crap out of each other in games and stuff. So we suffer as well not just you, quite thinking you've got it worse then everyone else when we all face major issues with the game. Crytek needs to at least give us feedback and updates about what's going on with everything is the biggest complaint. You guy got dedicated servers and they gave no information if they're working on to get the console's dedicated servers or not. Are they? We don't know because the lack of updates so we assume no because of they're general lack of updates. It's almost like they don't give a damn about us the consumer who keeps them in business.

Learn to play without aim assist. Then you'll be able to destroy on consoles.
