Okay, no, it wasn't. Some might choose to answer the question metaphysically, but I think that's a little unlikely myself. Tiber Septim may have been a master, but there's no rule that Lorkhan aspirants need to conquer the entire continent, even if pursuing a feminine principle embodied in the concept of Land. I'd think the desire to become a god came later, with some knowledge and experience under his belt. You probably understood none of that, but that's fine. I'm anticipating someone else padding out a theory on that.
No, Tiber Septim took over Tamriel for the same reason any conqueror conquers; ambition, authority, status, and so on. Also, the traditional eminence embodied by a role like that of an emperor, and committing a name to posterity. And though it's kind of nice that this thread suggests the idea we live in a world where the ambitions of conquerors are wholly alien to our mindset, still it's something that I'd hope we be familiar with from history.
