Why did you buy Skyrim for a console?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 9:39 pm

I voted Not a PC Gamer, but my PC also can't run it. I've just always been a console guy, since the days of the Atari 2600.

I envy PC gamers their mods and in-game snapshots. :sadvaultboy:

I'm not really into mods i generally play a game and move on to the next game.

This. I think the only game I've ever really gone into depth with mods would be Final Fantasy Tactics. Oh my god, FFT 1.3 made me [censored] myself so hard.

If the Skyrim mods ever get to the point where there is some must play experience, in a year or two I could probably get it for cheap. I'll be working full-time by then so I'll be able to probably maintain a higher tier computer while having the current gen consoles. It'd probably take around that long for any mod worth the hassle to be created.

I have always been interested why Skyrim suddenly got so popular on the console platform.

The Elder Scrolls has been popular consoles ever since the console became the main consumer when Oblivion came out.

I didn't get it for PC because my laptop can't run it.

I would love to get a PC that could run skyrim well for 200$.

here's your xbox equiv, the price difference is basically buying windows. Will run skyrim on ultra, so a little better than your xbox.

The xbox is the equivalent of a 200-300 dollar PC roughly, you get what you pay for.

Except you can't play Skyrim on a $200 pc.

Whenever these threads pop up... which is whenever a multi platform game is released... I find it odd that the PC gamers spend so much effort trying to convince us console gamers to buy a PC. And I never see console gamers trying to sway pc gamers to the console side.

I think it shows pc gamers are insecure about their gamin.... they see pc gaming slowly fading away.

Don't believe me? Just look at Skyrim. Look what it was developed for and look at the sale numbers. Look who's buying games and what systems they are buying them for.

He bought a bunch of used parts from random people across the internet. For more 50% more than a new 360 costs. No. Your failed to counter my point.

You can play skyrim on Ultra Graphics settings with a 300-350 dollar PC. And the sales don't include steam sales which is figured to be up to 1.5 million + and growing every day, good one chief.

You're making the silly assumption that I have the desire to build a pc.

I can build a house for less money than I can buy one that someone else built also... But I don't want to.

Stop trying to convince us. I'm guessing most of us have PCs at home and have heard of pc gaming and Google.

We're not stupid.

It doesn't help that at the end of every Skyrim commercial you hear "Now available for the XBox 360"
Nevertheless; for me, TES games will always be a PC series. Hearing a TES title and a console name in the same sentence is an oxymoron to my ears.

Lol i'm not trying to convince anyone, i'm merely stating facts. Obviously the Xbox is a bit cheaper (in every way) . But by what 50 dollars?

i play on 360. i really dont regret it. i have logged many hour (for me, not nearly as many as a lot of you) and have come across no bugs or glitches that have been anything other funny.

i have played games on my pc, and know that the graphics would be better, but i would have to up date it a bit to get the most out of it, and the graphics are more than good enough for me on the xbox. i play rpg games for the story and experience of it not the graphics.

i like to play on my tv. i know i could plug my pc in to the tv, but i would need to move it and have it cose to the tv or have a load of cables running about my house, i also use my pc for work so want it at a desk, and i really dont see the point of running 2 pc's (work and gaming).

i dont want to keep playing catch up with pc parts. i know that it is not that expensive, but i would rather spend my money on something else, not to mention spend the time it would take on some thing else. its not that i am lazy, i am out the house with work for 12 hours a day 5 days a week, i also have a young son and have a baby on the way, when i do get time to play thats all i want to do.

the only thing i see i am missing out on is mods, but there is more than enough in this game to keep me interested, i have played tes games since morrowind and know that i will be finding new things more many months to come, if not years.

and also its my choice. if you want to play on a pc, with top graphics and all the mods you want than great, all power to you. if, like me you want to play on 360 or ps3 than i see no reason why that should be a problem for anyone.

Because the console is cheaper of course!
Don't feel like spending allot of money on a computer, then having to spend even more money to upgrade it when newer games come out, or even having to update drivers, rollback drivers that sort of thing, I prefer the simple way, just put the game in and play, also I'm not a big fan of mods, I will usually spend my time looking and installing/unistalling mods than actually playing the game, that and I prefer having the control in my hand and playing on my Tv instead right in front of me.

EDIT: Also the only games that I like playing on the PC are older DOS games and Civilization,Alpha Centuria, the Sims 2, and galactic civilizations.

Now, considering I get all my games from Gamestop and pretty much just wait for huge buy-back deals and purchase during buy 2 get 1 free used games sales, or at the least when games are a year or two old and get them for $20-$30 dollars, my pricepoint is very comparable to yours.

I only know of 1 person who does not own a TV. This makes the price of a TV negligible. I play on my Acer PC moniter for HD capability with my Triton headphones. Love my experience.

Another point, maybe PC or for that person that has to have the best of everything. I don't. I know I may have made some concessions with choosing a 360 over a PC, but I did so and have ZERO regrets.

Why do you think consoles were made in the first place? To give people a more affordable and convenient gaming experience. Consoles have afforded many more gamers to video games due to this accessibility.

TV ownership doesn't negate the fact that one has/had to buy a TV, regardless of that, a TV was purchased, whether or not they got the console later. My point is, that for the money, the price I listed for a rig includes a monitor, and consoles don't come with a TVs (or vice versa), so whether or not it was purchased or existed before the console pruchase, doesn't make the cost of the TV negligible. Your console game's price points don't exclude that for PC either. You wait for two to three years for console games to get cheaper, but that isn't an exclusive event for console games. Do the same games for the PC version remain static in price three years later, of course not? Your regret comment (which is fine, I am not picking on it), is a choice of preference. I love console gaming, but now it's a myth of economy, as it is not as it was a few years ago for consoles/PC price differences.

I have PC and xbox but i buy just about everything for console if I can. Its just easier to play and more convenient. All my rigs are set up in my family room. 65" plasma, surround sound...and giant recliner. I do have a set-up with a board and such were i can have a keyboard and mouse in my recliner but an xbox controller is just plain easier to work with.

I love PC gaming but pretty much reserve that for the things thata really cant be done on concole such as TBS like Civ series.

I bought it on 360 till I get get the game and all DLC on disc for PC instead of waiting for downloads. Plus the CK isn't even out yet that I know of, so it is pointless IMO. The only advantage I see on the PC version they get 8 quick slots. Where I only have a lousy 2 quick slots on 360. Then the PC elitists cry it was made for consoles. Feel lucky you don't have to open your inventory to take a frikkin potion or change weapons most of the time like the Xbox and PS3 users.

After I destroyed my expensive computer with multiple mmorpgs I bought a cheap computer and swore them off. I have Skyrim for the Ps3. I've encountered errors, but nothing bigger than other games I play (year old and should be fixed to be error free by now). Can't mod, no. svcks yes. Still the best CONSOLE game I've played in at least two years.

Abandoned PC gaming a few years ago for various reasons and switched to consoles. Thus, my PC is only fit for work, no real graphic power, though most point&click adventures (sadly, rather rare on consoles) still run on it. (They're usually not that strong graphically anyways.) So even if I wanted to play Skyrim on PC, I couldn't.

And no, I don't regret it. Okay, there's the weird PS3 bug but I haven't been affected so far. As for the other stuff, well, I chose console gaming (mainly PS3) over PC with all the "drawbacks" included as the good things about consoles are more important to me, personally. (And the exclusive console games are more of my taste than the ones for PC.) I'm not changing my mind now just for one game. I miss out on mods, that's about it.

Bought it for PC and Xbox 360. I can run it on the PC in Ultra settings no problem but i`ve spent over 200 hours playing it on my 360 lol.
It looks gorgeous on it hooked up to the big TV. It`s comfy playing from the sofa and the 360 controller is great with this game - and no I don`t want to connect up my PC to the big TV...not everyone wants to rearrange their setup :stare:.
The few hours I played on my PC I had no less than 4 CTD`s. Screw that.
nah, i`m very happy with the console version.

I was always on Console. Never been a PC gamer. Wanted to... but don't have the $$ for the system.

I got it on 360 because I love my 360 and Oblivion 1st started here. Glad I did hearing all the problems PS3 had.

Few glitches here and there.. but still loving it and reaching 200 hrs soon! :D

You don't need to be rich, at least not in the US. Anyone with a lower middle-class salary or better should be able to afford a reasonable gaming PC.

There's also the matter of priorities. For quite a lot of people, canceling their extended cable TV subscription and switching to a frugal cell phone plan would allow them to afford a top-of-the-line gaming PC, monitor, peripherals, an MMO subscription or two, and plenty of games, including yearly upgrades/replacements and maintenance costs for said PC.

Well, if you are married and have a family, you are not going to cancel the TV service so you can buy a PC just to play Skyrim right?

I played Morrowind on a PC. Back then I was single and could decide to spend everything I had on a powerful PC. Now I am married and also I live in a small apartment. I don't really have space to put a desktop PC and a gaming laptop would be a very expensive. It simply does not make sense.

I see a lot of posters thinking that "everyone" should be able to buy/afford a PC. Well, maybe I could afford it really doesn't make sense when you have other expenses. It was bad for me to see all the mods available for Oblivion and not be able to install them. Now I have to suffer the same with Skyrim. But hey, I'd rather play vanilla Skyrim than not play at all.
