Why did you buy Skyrim for a console?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 3:45 am

In terms of playing the game. I prefer to do so on a large TV with a comfy sofa.

However, in terms of the mods. I'm going to have to buy a PC, get an Xbox360 adapter and then play on my comfy sofa and large TV. :D

I don't regret buying it for the console at all.

I have always been interested why Skyrim suddenly got so popular on the console platform. Being that Morrowind was a game introduced to me under the guise, see what you can mod for it! by a friend, I have always vehemently made sure I was buying TES games for a PC. Even now owning a PS3 (I have only played FF13 or 14... cant remember, dont care...) on it, I was never really a console fan. So Whyd you buy Skyrim for a console?

All of my friends are on xbox. If I had gotten it for PC, I'd be sitting there alone playing a game.
On my xbox, I can play and still talk to friends.

Bought it for the PS3, I regretted that until I traded it in for the PC version. I am playing the PC version now, with an XBOX controller hooked up to an HDTV. In other words, the best of both worlds. I get the faster loading and the better graphics of the PC and the sitting in the recliner with a controller in front of a big TV too.

Oh man! That would be my dream set up. Unfortunately, decent rigs over here in OZ are expensive. More than I can afford anyways.

It has been reported many times that it's Bethesda's fault and not Sony's-. They can't code their games for the PS3 right.

Hehe... Yeh, right.

I bought my Xbox 5 years ago for $200 bucks and it still plays games that are released today.

Find me a 5 year old PC that you paid $200 for that can play anything current.

Exactly.

Maybe Sony should dumb down their hardware then.

If Bethesda can't do something right because of how a system is made, how is it Bethesda's fault?

Because they don't know how to program a game for the PS3, they shouldn't have made the port in the first place.

Because other companies have managed to make games that are playable on a PS3? If it genuinely isn't possible, then they should really have considered not making the port imo.

I for one thinks that PC gamers are rude and hardheaded because they try to shove and force me to believe PC gaming is better just like how Muslims say join our religion or die... Though I may get a gaming PC in the future because mods and stuff could be really fun and funny to use and because Garry's Mod looks fun as hell... But for each PC is superior and if you don't play on PC you aren't a real gamer reply I get the less and less I like PC gamers and PC gaming... Plus I collect guns and I can get a pretty good AR15 or AK for the price of a "good"or"great" gaming cumputer...

I feel as though the question/poll is an insult to the console users ._.

1. Not everyone can afford 2-3 upgrades on a computer.
2. Not everyone owns a Desktops(better for upgrading)
3. Not everyone's computer is readily available to them anytime they please. Some people share computers with others.

I can go on an on.

Bought it on PS3, have absolutely no regrets so far since it runs perfectly. I'd quite like the PC version for all the mods, but really there's no way I'll ever bother buying a PC good enough to play it on even if I did have the money.

My PC will run it but I bought it on XBox for comfort really. Spending hours sitting at a desk can get pretty uncomfortable whereas lounging on the sofa in front of the TV is far more relaxing. Its also too much hassle moving my PC and plugging it into the TV, buying an XBox style controller and configuring it to work with the game. I've been playing every evening and weekend since release day and only yesterday I got my first glitchy dragon, other than that the game has been perfect.

The only PC in the house that will run it is my Dad's work PC, which is taken 9-5. So I'd have been forced to play 2-3 hours a day before being kicked off by another family member. Not enough time.

Better/more people on xbox to talk to whilst playing. Also I prefer the controls for xbox, I know you can use a xbox controller for pc but its just more hassle. Also don't want to waste money on upgrading/buying a new pc to play games like this. I also prefer to play most other games on xbox, assassins creed, fifa for example.

Nope. IIRC there are at least equivalent numbers of active steam accounts and XBL accounts, if not more steam accounts by now; with many PC gamers avoiding steam, meaning that there are likely more PC players to talk to than Xbox players; they also tend to be older than the typical 11-15 year olds you hear raging over the mic on consoles, but are just as whiny..

As for 'hassle' with using an Xbox controller, you know you just plug it in and play right? No hassle whatsoever.

I'm not ignoring that, it's simply irrelevant to my decision whether to buy the game for console or PC. If I had a PC that could comfortably run Skyrim, I might have gone for that option but I don't. I do however have an xbox 360 sitting here that I bought about three years ago in a sale for €169 that can run Skyrim without any hassle.
My PC is great for playing older games like Morrowind, indie games and MMOs that tend to scale well (not to mention browsing the internet) but that's all I use my PC for. So I don't see the need to spend hundreds on upgrading my PC just to play a game I can play on my console.

Fair enough.

Go back a few pages and you'll find I very much agree with you.

What I'm saying is Console vs PC in regard to cost is akin to Knife vs Swiss Army Knife. It'a a no-brainer the former is more cost effective and cuts as well but it does'nt have the additional applications.

For me it's cheaper to game on PC as it's a work related cost and tax write off.I think comparison of cost based purely on gaming is to generalized and inaccurate.

Except you can't play Skyrim on a $200 pc.

Whenever these threads pop up... which is whenever a multi platform game is released... I find it odd that the PC gamers spend so much effort trying to convince us console gamers to buy a PC. And I never see console gamers trying to sway pc gamers to the console side.

I think it shows pc gamers are insecure about their gamin.... they see pc gaming slowly fading away.

Don't believe me? Just look at Skyrim. Look what it was developed for and look at the sale numbers. Look who's buying games and what systems they are buying them for.

i admit, the only good reason not to get it on pc is price...but thats just it isnt it. its not PC gamers being insecure, its that the gaming experience is in fact...superior. however im not a fool, overal i think it costs more money unless your EXTREMELY savvy.

console players dont try to sway anyone because they know there platform doesnt offer the goodies pc does.

again ill make this comparison because i htink its valid.

Consoles are like Iphones, they do a lot and require very little understanding, if a problem pops up you just send it in, its tailored to the lowest common denominator so even a child can play it. Because of this, people flock to them. People are lazy, anything that can do cool stuff and require next to no knowledge of its inner workings is good by them. (and imo reason people are getting dumber today)

a PC on the other hand often requires the user to have a working grasp of at least its software and sometimes its hardware especially when troubleshooting which does happen on pc's, especially ones built from the ground up.

This is why im against extreme ease of use, it breeds stupid.

not saying all console players are that way, heck i own a ps3 (only a few games, but its a great blueray player too!)

I personally bought it for the PS3 as I wasn't sure if my laptop could run it, in retrospect it probably can, although not on ultra, but it can probably run it smoothly on high, as it runs FO3 with nearly maxed graphics.

I won't buy it again for the PC, but I might download it to see if it actually runs well on my laptop.

I don't entirely regret my decision as I prefer playing it with the controller, and I don't have a 360 controller to connect with my laptop, although they're pretty cheap (~$25 around here).
And luckily even with a save file at 11 mb, it doesn't lag badly. Sure after playing for a couple of hours Whiterun gets a little messy, but I rarely spend much time in the town any way. Travelling is perfectly fine and so is fighting dragons. And since I rarely play more than two hours straight I don't notice the game breaking lag people have experienced.
In the end, getting it for the PS3 was a good (and safe) decision.

meh, if for some reason you cant play on a comp, consoles are valid alternatives. if you have the option tho...it really is a better gaming experience.

im surprised to find people in this thread saying they cant use a keyboard/mouse or that they prefer controller. its so...inprecise compared to a mouse, and keyboard offers so many moer hotkeys.

I bought it for Steam, but I was going to get it for the xbox because I simply enjoy the automatic updates and the simplicity of consoles plug-and-play compared to all those [censored] issues I have with my computer. In the past it was a pain in the dike to get anything to work, then I quit Ubuntu and purchase games through steam using Windows 7 and it's like I have the same benefits as a console user only I can still play with mods.

Control Comparison (X=my personal preference)
PC: WASD--------CONSOLE: Joystick X
PC: Mouse X --------CONSOLE: Joystick
PC: 1-8 hotkeys X--------CONSOLE: d-pad hotkeys
PC: keyboard layout--------CONSOLE: Controller layout X

It just feels better playing on a controller, but aiming is a lot more precise using a mouse, and there are a lot more hotkeys available. In Skyrim, I haven't needed more than 5 hotkeys at once, and it's not exactly a FPS so I might want to use an xbox controller for my game, which is supposed to be possible.
