Why did you buy Skyrim for a console?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 5:52 am

I have always been interested why Skyrim suddenly got so popular on the console platform. Being that Morrowind was a game introduced to me under the guise, see what you can mod for it! by a friend, I have always vehemently made sure I was buying TES games for a PC. Even now owning a PS3 (I have only played FF13 or 14... cant remember, dont care...) on it, I was never really a console fan. So Whyd you buy Skyrim for a console?

My friends usually just say they can't afford buying a PC that runs games well enough. :brokencomputer:

Or that they once tried to build a gaming PC, but got screwed over by the hardware seller. So now they are stuck with it.

I just prefer console gaming.

I've played every TES game.. Morrowind was the first released on a console and I've never looked back.

Morrowind was the reason on bought the original Xbox.

Well.. I looked back once buying Oblivion for the PC and 360... but, mods and all, I preferred it on the Xbox.

My reason for buying Oblivion for the 360 was that it was available on my $200 xbox and I didn't want to spend a lot more than that on a gaming PC. I did regret it a bit after seeing what the modding community could do, and now I'm on a PC for skyrim.

Bought it for Ps3 because I don't like mods and I'm not a PC gamer. Don't regret it after hundreds of hours.

I bought Skyrim for the PS3 on release day. I absolutely loved it, playing on the 46" HDTV was great. I've had some issues with my GTX 260 overheating, so I was apprehensive about the PC version.

What a mistake.

When my save files his 10mb on the PS3, the game became totally unplayable due to choppiness and lag. I looked online, only to find that this was a common issue on the PS3 due to the way that the PS3 stores memory. Bethesda simply said it would take a "large time commitment" to fix. So I traded in my PS3 version for $30 (losing $30 in the act), and re-buying it for the PC at $60.

The game is way too amazing not to be able to play it, but I am pretty pissed about the massive oversight on the PS3 release.

I will say this: On the PC the graphics are a bit better, and more importantly the LOAD TIMES. Everything loads SO incredibly fast on my PC, it took forever on the PS3 and I only imagine the xbox is the same. I'm also anxious for mods :D

TL;DR: Don't buy the PS3 version if you have the option of PC.

I bought 2 copies. First, one for the PC. Because I've played Elder Scrolls games before, and I KNEW I would be creating and using mods.
But I also bought it for th xbox 360, because before the modding can begin, you have to figure out what the game is like, how it works, what's good and what's bad already. My couch is comfy, this UI practically REQUIRES a game controller to navigate, and when I'm done with it, I can give my old xbox copy to my niece.
PC version and I are going to become old friends together. Someday. When it's modded exactly to my liking. ;)

i'm a PlayStation gamer, and have been for 15 years. If anything I want gets a PS3 release, its what I get it on.
Of course, I don't have a 360, and my gaming computer blew up 2 years ago (it went "poof"), but still.
So yeah, anyway... obviously I got it on the PS3, and no, I don't regret it at all, NOT ONE BIT.
Its an amazing game, and the glitches aren't as bad as some would have you believe.

It's more fun on console. Mouses and keyboards aren't as much fun.

I have a 52" plasma TV and an xbox360. I would have had to spend upwards of $600 to play Skyrim on my PC (new video card, more ram, and a new power source because my power source fan is broken), and I have a tiny monitor and an uncomfortable computer chair/desk.

Was a simple choice. I know I could have gotten more out of Skyrim with mods, but it would have cost me a lot of money. I'd rather play on a PC, but it just isn't a realistic option for me. I couldn't justify spending that kind of cash because I really don't play many games.

You don't need to be rich, at least not in the US. Anyone with a lower middle-class salary or better should be able to afford a reasonable gaming PC.

There's also the matter of priorities. For quite a lot of people, canceling their extended cable TV subscription and switching to a frugal cell phone plan would allow them to afford a top-of-the-line gaming PC, monitor, peripherals, an MMO subscription or two, and plenty of games, including yearly upgrades/replacements and maintenance costs for said PC.

You can use a 360 controller on the PC. It's literally plug and play.

You can also connect it to your big screen TV.

PC can do everything your toasters can do.

Also, M+KB is a preference. It's better for FPS and RTS but I prefer controllers for rpgs like skyrim.

So basically.. you are a prime example of the common misconceptions people have with PCs.

Think of it this way. PCs aren't used just for gaming.

PCs are also cheaper in the long run ( Upgrading every year or two is total BS. This only applies to hardcoe PC gamers like myself that want to max the settings @ 60+ fps at all times ). Steam sales where you can get tons of awesome games for $1-5, or 50% off is very common.

Bought it for the PS3, I regretted that until I traded it in for the PC version. I am playing the PC version now, with an XBOX controller hooked up to an HDTV. In other words, the best of both worlds. I get the faster loading and the better graphics of the PC and the sitting in the recliner with a controller in front of a big TV too.

I really dont see why people buy consoles instead of just upgrading their PC they cost about the same and PCs will last just about as long as the console
