Why did you love honest hearts?

Post » Fri Aug 05, 2011 7:31 pm

I'm just curious why other people like or love it. (not a topic for people who don't like it or hate it) I know why I love it, why do you?

So why DID you love it? Going to lead by example or just wait to hear our answers?

Anyways, I enjoyed the environment, most of all.

I love it for the gear you get out of it, Joshua Grahams armor, desert ranger armor, Survivalist Rifle, A Light in Shining Darkness, seriously probably 70% of the equipment I use I got out of that dlc.

The open environment.
The rain.
The stars at night.
The Weapons. (.45 pistol, .45 SMG, CR, Survivalists Rifle)

The 1 and a half hour story was VERY disappointing.

Here are the things I liked about HH (mild spoilers):

  • The environment actually felt like a National Park, or how one would look 200 years after the bombs fell.
  • The tribal paintings were also a nice touch.
  • Aside from the White Legs, it's nice to run into tribal groups (Dead Horses and Sorrows) that are not immediately trying to kill you.
  • I thought it was cool how you got hired and traveled in with a caravan, though it's too bad you couldn't save any of your travel buddies.
  • Like in real life, towards the end, there's no obvious "right choice", each choice has it's benefits and consequences.
  • I like how all the "unique" gear that the NPCs carried are available for you at the end of the DLC without you actually having to kill them.
  • Although there's no reason to go back quest wise, I do like the fact that you can go back to Zion to forage, hunt and/or fend off the remaining White Legs.
  • Some of the gear such as the Desert Ranger Armor is arguably the best Medium armor in the game. Has the cool look of the Vet Ranger Armor but non Faction and better DT.
  • Joshua Graham's Armor has the best DT/Weight Ratio in the game, light enough to carry as a "backup" armor.
  • The Survivalist Rifle and the Compliance Regulator, the War Club and Yao Guai Gauntlets and all the .45s are pretty good gear as well.

I love everything about it. The main story line I like a lot, I found it interesting that the Mormons of Utah survived the apocalypse and were still in the Utah area and carrying on missionary work, I liked the whole back story of New Canaan and Joshua Graham's struggle between vengeance and falling into the ways of the past or enlightened change. It's interesting how Graham tries to make peace with himself. I didn't like Daniel at first, but he is growing on me.

The Survivalist story was really cool, it felt glorious to finally get his entire story and to see him rested with his amazing gun. It fit well with the main story.

I love all the gear you get from it, all the guns, the armor, the hat, even Scripture that I carry with me.

The scenery is gorgeous, I love how there is lots of plants and some wildlife to keep a survivalist like me enthralled.

I know this isn't for those who hated it, but I have to disagree. Joshua Graham was a whiny thug - crying about how bad Caesar is, but wanting to lead the tribals in battle. Just like old times, eh?. The only reason he's there is because Caesar punished him for failing. If he had won the Battle of Hoover Dam, he'd still be out slaughtering people in the name of Legion "civilisation".

The Weapons and armor are actually quite good, unlike the items found in the Big Empty...

Well Joshua Graham took that fall with fire as a sign of a second baptism. "I have been baptized twice, once in water, once in flame." Hell, if the Legion succeeded there would be no New Vegas story. Benny would have never shot you in the head. Lots of things would have never happened if Graham succeedded in killing NCR in the Mojave.

I think he would have evuentually been disillisioned by the process of the Legion. I can't prove that, but that's what I think.

I wouldn't say I loved it.

But I like the scenery. I still haven't found the Survivalist's Rifle mainly because I didn't really explore. It seems too massive to find everything, especially with nothing to guide me and tell me that I've done it. There are lots of unexplored parts that will probably remain unexplored. :3

I get what you're saying. Obviously the game would have been different, if he had won - but I mean his attitude. It's very easy to change when you have no other choice. He had no where else to go, so he goes back to where he'll be "forgiven".

He reminds me of serial killers that "find" Jesus after they've been caught and sent to Death Row.

I liked HH. IMO it had a large flaw that I warned against many times.

It forced playes to go against cl motives. In main game that "back pack a faction FTW" is the overriding theme, players can not be forced to oppose any of those factions in any way in dlc.

You could not help the White Legs, and they shot at you in full Centurion armor even though they are working for cl.

Here was my cl guy playthrough...

Kill Graham
Kill a great majority of the Dead Horses
Kill Daniel
Kill a great majority of the Sorrows
Kill some White Legs who are shooting at someone that is clearly with cl.
leave

That is bad.

My main character was much different, and I don t really like cl anyway, but if I did I would be pissed. That is why most cl fans rate it a 2 or 4.

I liked the meaning of the main story, but there was not much to it.

I liked the scenery of the map.

I loved the survivalist stories

I gave it a 7.5 the lowest of all fo nv dlc, because of the above mentioned major flaw. Still worth the $

He was getting on his years. People change you know, I think that fall just quickened the process. I'm almost 30 and I'm not the same person I was when I was 20.

the landscape, the atmosphere. i never really noticed how lackluster the story was until i saw so many negative reactions to it, but yeah they could have done more with it...but its still probably my favorite of all the new vegas dlc. i just love that area. the environment in games is really important to me, one of the biggest factors......and stuff like rain, that totally does it for me. i'd been waiting to see something nice and lush

J.E. Sawyer said the development team didn't have a lot time compared to other teams, so maybe that's why the story feels rushed

The sky and the unarmed weapons...AND THAT'S IT! It amazes me that people "love" this DLC...stars and bear arms (tehehehe bear arms) are not worthy of such a strong emotion.

I enjoyed the very thick lore in such a brief DLC.

Joshua Graham
A Light Shining in the Darkness

...That's pretty much it.

To be fair, Joshua admits to being uncomfortable with leading the Dead Horses and tries to resist influencing any of the tribals, especially Follows-Chalk. If you pass a speech check at the end of the DLC, he'll admit that he's just using his religion as an excuse to wipe out the White Legs in some twisted form of revenge against Caesar. Depending on which ending you get for him, he either comes to terms with this and finds peace, or continues living in denial, becoming the monster he was before the Dam. He's a well-written character; it just takes some digging.
