I agree the Commonwealth would be awesome, however after playing New Vegas and walking in a barren desert for two hours and seeing maybe about four enemies is terribly boring, at least in New York there'd be a lot of things to shoot at and on top of that I'd love to see the post-apocalyptic mafia. :P

How would they explain the main protagonist getting from side of the country to the next?

It doesn't have to be one side of the country to the next, Fallout 1 & 2's maps combined are all of California. An east coast version would be several states on the eastern seaboard, for a good way it should be implemented, look at my post in the "New Engine for Fallout 4" thread.

Ronto and The Commonwealth could be at the top of the map, D.C. at the south, or even Richmond, Virginia, depending how far south it should go.

South (especially Watts Bar Wattz Bar) is missing,

Poll is racist!!!

Also, I have absolutely zero interest in the Commonwealth and their androids, the only thing that could make it interesting IMO is when Eden comes back with an army of robots/androids as a rogue AI, something similar to http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/CABAL from C&C, maybe with an army similar to http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Marked_of_Kane.

And don't we have something similar to this thread (without the poll though) http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1166206-official-future-fallout-locations-suggestion-topic-4/?

I would hope for the Commonwealth. Why should all Fallout-games be set in the US?

When people say Commonwealth they mean the nation that was once the pre-war Commonwealth of Massachusetts, not the European Commonwealth as you appear to be thinking.

Oh, darn. Well, that just enhances my question, then - why does it have to be set in the US?

It's not a racist thing, it's because the whole perspective of Fallout is the Pre-War world at the time of 2077 was akin to our 1940's-1950's Atomic Family Era. Even in Fallout you saw alot of Post-War reminders of what the world once was, and Fallout 3 turned up the nostalgic reminders. (which I love)

I have to think placing the game outside America/Canada (Remember the US forcefully annexed Canada during Operation: Anchorage) then it'd ruin one of the narrative themes of Fallout.

US has all the points of reference and all the hallmarks of Fallout. Set it elsewhere and there would be no Vault tec and thus no vaults, no vaultexperiments, no supermutants, no Enclave, no BOS, no NCR, no Legion, no vaultboy, no pipboy... etc, no points of reference, just a postapocalyptic setting. Now, at this point I wouldn't mind that too much anymore, it would likely make a nice game, but I wouldn't call it Fallout anymore.

I hope its not in NY. Not because NY as a setting is overdone, but because of the fact that I expect a Fallout game in NY would involve getting one of the worst aspects of FO3 (the endless boring subway tunnels) and turning it to eleven.

So yeah... no thanks.

Really? I thought the complex system of subways was one of the most interesting parts of combing the DC Ruins. I missed them in New Vegas.

I was just about to ask where the common wealth was...I originally though it was just something the FO series made up. I also always imagined it as some sort of company or club since they are known for their tech. I can almost guarantee that the BoS will be a major faction if FO4 is in the common wealth though. Personally I'd prefer NYC and surrounding areas. Maybe they could make a REALLY big DLC (2x point lookout) with the common wealth in it. However, I'd also like things the other way around. I'd prefer it be in NYC, but I also really want to see the common wealth. I have a strong feeling that one of those two WILL be FO4.

So http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/5127/falloutworldmap.jpg is what of USA the Fallout games has covered so far (pretty much, it may not be exact). I think you can figure out which ones uses map nodes, and which ones that are just sandbox.

So, with Fallout 4, that map could either look like http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/2175/fallout4mapnode.jpg or like http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/3892/fallout4sandbox.jpg.
Which one would you prefer?

NOTE: having a map node system does NOT mean to make it a 2D sprite game with only locations that you can run across in less than a minute. Every big and open location could be as big as Point Lookout, maybe a bit bigger. Smaller locations could have the outlay like The Pitt, hopefully less linear. And of course there'd be locations within the locations, like dungeons or some door taking you off-map somehow. It'd still be 3D in 1st/3rd person, because that ain't gonna change.

I for one, would welcome a map node system. I would also welcome a Fallout game where we DIDN'T see a return of an old faction. It would be nice (not to mention logical) to have a Fallout game where you don't see BOS, Enclave, NCR or whatever. Florida maybe?

new york would be nice for a fallout game, any big city is ok with me, as long as their is a big city in the game, cities have a lot of different areas to explore and cruise around, skyscraqers, industrial areas, slums, neighborhoods, apartment complexes, parks, airports, subways, commercial areas, even in FO3 the city could of been a lot better, so i hope a large city area is in the next fallout game.

I foresee an insane amount of rubble if it were in New York. Really, I'd rather not have it there. New England map-node please :D

Map - "nope" or map-node, i am cunfus, i would like a New England node-based map, travelling throughout several states, with individual nodes, encounters, instants, to be sandbox-based and, i guess, first person.
