Why does Crysis 2 Run so slow on my rig?

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 9:45 am

so according to Can You Run It? my system passes the minimum spec required to play crysis 2, but whenever I play either singleplayer or multiplayer it seems to run really slow.

I have used the Crysis 2 Advanced Graphics application to turn everything down to minimum settings but still no luck, even when I use AMD's Fusion on the "Gaming" profile.

The HD 4600 series is not better than an 8800GT. don't ever trust that website. You you have a 4650 or 4670?

On a 4650 you can play it maybe 1024 x 768 and Medium settings, and with the 4670 at 1280 x 720 at Medium settings.

Yeah I have the 4650. Do you think thats the only thing thats slowing it down, looking at the specs?

I have a Q6600 and an ATI 4870, I get 50fps on hardcoe settings, or whatever the lowest setting is. I play at 1920x1080. Use me as a benchmark as anything slower will be unplayable.

Hate to tell you man but your system could never handle this game! To play this game and truly enjoy it, you need at least a quad core processor, 4GB DDR2 (at an absolute minimum!) 6GB if you want it to run smooth, and at least an ATI Radeon HD 5770 or Nvidia GTX 460 with at least 1GB of GDDR5 RAM. Sorry but your system just hasn't got the power necessary to run this game. TIME TO UPGRADE!!!

Yet I can run Crysis 2 at 1920x1080 on medium, thats what I dont understand. I thought that Crysis v1 was more intensive?

Yeah that's mianly what's slowing it down. Is it a custom built rig or an OEM rig?

If your power supply is strong enough I'd say upgrade to a GTS 450 ($110) for good performance at ~1680 x 1050 hardcoe settings or at least a Radeon HD 5750 or 5770 if you can.

If you can't pay that much you could probably pick up a GTS 250 for $80-$90.

And your CPU is decent but ight slow you down. If your BIOS allows you would try to squeeze some extra MHz out of it.

You can run at 1920 x 1080 on Medium on a 4650? I find that hard to believe. I'm playing on a GT 240 here, which is a little bit better than the 4670, and I'm playing at ~30-40 FPS on 1440 x 900 and MEdium settings.

Seriously I reinstalled and tested last night just to be sure, hit optimise in the graphics options and then played it just to be sure.

Its a custom rig built a couple of years ago, with a few minor upgrades since then. Yeah it may be time to start looking at a new graphics card methinks.

I'm sorry, but that's really bad advice. The rest of your statement was pretty much right.

Crysis 2 uses 1.2GB of RAM. Windows 7 should use about 1GB. Add those together and 3GB still has enough overhead to take this game (and every other game out there).

Unless he has other background processes running that can eat up ram. I have 6GB of DDR2 and I use around 40% to 50% when playing any given game. Even when my PC is just sitting doing nothing I use 20% to 25%. I know background processes aren't gonna eat up a whole gig but it's safe to have that extra gig on standby just in case.
