Why does everyone hate me?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 8:07 am

Some kid sent mercenaries after me for stealing. I've never stolen anything in my life but ok I can understand maybe he was bored.
Then someone sent an assassin from the DB after me and I don't know how to trace who did it.
Are these bugs or does the game periodically send people to hunt you down and kill you?

I've had a DB assassin sent after me, but I don't know who I pissed off. Either way, not a bug.

I've been playing the good guy but now I want to kill whoever send the DB after me.
Sadly there's not much I can do to that kid.
I understood not being able to hurt children but how is it fair that they can send mercenaries after me. :( Damn you Bethesda.

Its difficult to say if you claim to do nothing wrong. Its possible you stole from a random NPC, even one that you killed before/one that attacked you.

But yes, the game usually does send out NPCs like this in response to the placers actions, not randomly. Good luck remembering why though.

Kill the thugs, one of them should have a contract which says who hired them. Not sure about the assassins, haven't had them yet.

Certainly isn't a bug.

I hired a room in the Inn at.. umm.. Solitude.
In my room there were several potions, etc. I took them, as I paid for the room! (and thus the rest in it!)

Then a few days later, the leader of that inn sent some thugs to kill me. The dead thug had his letter. =p

If you're a generally good character DB assassins can attack you sometimes. I think it is tied to the random encounters rather than generic enemy generation. If you mess with Thalmor Inquisitor teams too much they send teams after you - you'll find a notice on the hooded Thalmor (usually) detailing that your activities have been highly disruptive to their interests.

Pretty sure its the Random Encounter system doing that. Introduced in Fallout 3. Skyrim has it.

I've had three mercenaries and one DB assassin come after me before. Some people abuse those services a bit too much, methinks.

I also play a character that never steals. The house in Whiterun (don't know about the others) periodically flag items as stolen for reasons I have no idea. I have notes that were given to me that I stashed away that came up as stolen.

So maybe the items ties back to whoever gave it to you or items you found. It flags them as stolen and the game thinks you stole them hence why the hired thugs appear.

Idk, 11/11/11 was an epic release date. Personally I think they and we should have waited. :sadvaultboy:

I'm been a fairly good character......except I assaulted 22 times......by accident.......3 on purpose. Shouldn't have blocked way if you didn't want to get hit!

If you actually did steal from somebody and got caught, you'd have guards after you, not mercs.

Mercenary and DB assassins typically attack while you're travelling cross country to give you an element of danger. It's scripted, not a bug. The hero of any story always has an enemy who doesn't wish to see them succeed. :)

Got some hired thugs on me too, apparently some woman NPC, which I don't recall ever stealing from or doing anything else other talking to her. Probably just thought my sixy elf was prettier than her :D

I know who hired the mercenaries, it was some kid. Something Vilinius I think.
Apparently I have 68 Assaults and 3 Murders.
Do animals count?
The murders might be the giants I strayed too close to but 68 assaults?
Seriously?

It's not a bug. I got the same note after a DB assassin attacked me. I suspect we will discover more as the game goes along.

I got some Thugs sent after me twice, one of them had a contract that said that i stole something from a Priestess who sent them after me. The other contract said something about me being rude... but i'm always nice... meh.

hehe... the exact opposite happens to me; i got inheritance money after the death of someone i never even heard of. at first i thought it was some quest, but apparently some random NPC died somehow and despite not knowing who he is, he decided to write me into his will... go figure.

ive had the thugs sent after me (i have stolen like 2 things throughout the whole game), but i only saw them come into a cave and mutter something about "like to steal do you?" just as i ran out the same way. when i went back in the cave, they were gone... never saw them again.

Nahh Neverwinter Nights 2: SOZ had random encounters way before that

Edit: re-read - sorry, I'm assuming you meant Bethesda games only

Got jumped by an assasin when with Lydia and the Riverwood woman going off to meet a dragon - so three v one - Don't think the poor sap even had enough time to make a pithy remark before the three of us ripped him a new one.

I'm fairly certain DB assassins are sent if you're a nice person and thugs if you've been naughty. That's the only explanation I have for DB assassins, since they seem to show up as early as level 5 on Master difficulty.

Clearly, being a goody goodsman can be detremental to some people. I'm looking at you, Legion.
