Why does SKYRIM wants you to be bad?!

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 7:20 pm

I am playing a while now and just got to level 50 and the thing that is bugging me more and more is that the game wants you to be bad and gives you no alternatives, quests like thieves guild, dark brotherhood, Dedra.... should be giving you options like be good or be bad, but instead they are linear and even mandatory if you want to get the achievement! For a open world game the quests are damn linear and even tho improving you character is highly addictive you are not even recognised and respected by the people and nobility, i mean you have just saved the world and won the rebellion no biggy :P

It's the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild.. They're MEANT to be bad. If there was a good DB or Thieves Guild where people were saying "Oh noooo, she has a husband, we can't kill her!" I would not even play it.

Why would thieves guild, dark brotherhood etc be good? Also, it's not always about good or bad, it's about the bigger picture. With the Daedra, you often get entangled into things you might not have wanted. For example, meeting up suddenly with Molag Bal or Sanguine. You can't be 100% goody goody. You got to choose the lesser of two evils. I never felt forced to do things against my character's will. Just don't do those quests.

It goes both ways. When something is bad, it forces you to be bad. When it's good, it forces you to be good. The game just gives no options either way for any given situation.

Thieves Guild = Organized Crime
Dark Brotherhood = Murdering Assassins
Dedra = There is a few non evil ones.

on a side note, I wish TES would go follow the Fallout template. Have gray quests, but be able to paint it black or white. I dislike having to choose my morality by simply the quests I take. If I am to retrieve a kid who got lost in a cave, I should be able to lie to the parents and say there are too many trolls, or bring him back to the family.

I had not ever really thought about it until I read your post. You're correct, though, it would appear that we're being led down the dark path to badness.

The Dark Brotherhood tortures and kills for the greater good, though, I think.

I dunno, all I do know is I love cooking anything and everything with my Daedric Bow Of The Inferno. Is that wrong? I don't care if it is, I LIKE it!

Even the Vigilant of Stendarr (supposedly good guys) and the Silver Blades (supposedly good guys) are shaded grey in this game. It was a writer mess up as it's hard to feel good about yourself in this game sometimes and I think that detracts from the play fun. Even playing an elf walking down the street you'll get called an unwanted provincial. I mean geesh I want to enjoy playing not be made to feel bad about my character left and right by even the passersby!

My guess Bethesda wants you to be bad, is because in Oblivion, you were always Good. Even Dark Brotherhood quests, made you to be a good rightous person. Even when killing, it was for a good purpose. So I guess Bethesda wanted to do something different.
