Why does Storm Call Shout kill me and my follower? : V

I got the Storm Call shout a while back and never used it. A few weeks ago I tried it when no enemies were around, and it just killed my follower, and then it killed me. Another time I was killing some bandits at a fort, and I used it on them and it helped me kill them (like it should) but when all enemies were dead, the lightning proceeded to, once again, kill my follower and I respectively. Why is this happening? Am I doing something wrong, or is it supposed to be this sh*tty?

What makes me mad is the ability Companions Insight (Your attacks, shouts, and destruction spells do no damage to your followers when in combat.) from Dragonborn, still doesn't work with Storm Call... my companions still get hurt by the lightning)

I've used Storm Call quite a few times and I've never had it electrocute me. I've had it kill my followers. I've also had it kill my horse and my cow. My horse has been zapped while I was riding it. But thats the first I've heard of Storm Call not distinguishing or differentiating between Player Character and everything else.

Storm Call is VERY powerful. It has to have some kinda draw back.
