Why does this game have Marriage?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 12:48 am

Why is Marriage included in this game? It is actually anologous to slavery and I would not be surprised if the next game actually let's you own slaves which this game is pretty close to it....(It's a disturbing trend in today's RPG games that their including Marriage).

Of course I doubt in this game can let you be sixually promiscuous (having six with anyone you want...why can't games have that instead of Marriage?).

Not sure if joking but you get a buff for 8 hours if you sleep next to your spouse. I also find marriage a bother IRL, but in Skyrim its the only way to show you interested in someone. Not that the NPCs have a personality... I married an orc.

Why is Marriage included in this game? It is actually equivalent to slavery and I would not be surprised if the next game actually let's you own slaves which this game is pretty close to it....(I've been seeing alot of today's games including Marriage...hmmm...I don't like this trend).

The only benefit I got from marriage was having a vendor in my house to sell my loot to, plus profits from her store.

So, you're complaining that you can marry someone, and marriage is like "slavery" and so the game is racist? Now I've heard everything.

What's wrong with owning slaves in a game?

Not slavery at all. If you paid attention they state that people get married the way they do in Skyrim because their time is short since Skyrim is such a dark and dangerous place. They have no time to make decisions and decide to get married at very short notice. Although it's not even close to our marriage proposals, It's still marriage.

.....

Did that make sense? :ermm:

Who did you marry?

I don't see much of a point really. I have very little interest in it.

I think you need to look up the definition of slavery.

In Morrowind you could buy slaves. In the slave market, and it was actual NPCs that were designated as slaves.

Another topic that seems to ask for less choice and fewer options. You don't have to marry. If the feature doesn't enrich your game experience, don't marry. Like in real life. Or do it for the benefits, if you are a powergamer. Also like in real life.

I think it works with anyone as long as you move them to your place in a new town. So they don't get bored or what not.

Wow, showing affection for someone and wanting to spend the rest of your life with them is considered slavery? Dang I never knew my own parents were such MONSTERS!! And while were at it, why do we have combat in this game anyway? Why can't we just all get along and live happily ever after? in fact, why do we have video games? These things turn us into aliens and implants world domination ideas into our brains!

Well asking your spouse to cook for you pretty much sounds like slavery to me (or you have a personal maid).

Of course what happens if your spouse was a former warrior/hunter/etc (like Lydia) and their role has been reduced to pvssyl slavery is a bit disturbing to me.

Or a spouse who cares for you enough to accept your request, I suppose you found the option that let's you beat her for refusing though.

This topic is dumber than the "steam; spyware" topic that got locked.

Off topic bu, since when is slavery necessarily racist. Even though slavery throughout the modern era has been based heavily on racist ideas, slavery doesn't have to constitute racism.

OT:I am yet to find my one true love in Skyrim.

My character has the same problem. Being a Khajiit in a land that's very much lacking warm sand, he'd at least like to be with a warm, cuddly cat girl, but I don't think there are any that are willing to marry. If it stays that way, I'll have to wait for a mod.

If "slavery" is asking your wife to cook you dinner, then I guess I need to find myself a plantation. I guess saying Michelle Obama is black is racist, and killing a mammoth in the game means someone needs to call PETA.

Dude. Slavery. Look it up. (if you need to...)
