Why does this happen in forums

Post » Thu Jun 24, 2010 6:36 am

This was more of a personal test to see how the community reacts. Its a lot nicer here than in others..

Though comparing a game that NO ONE has played yet still seems a little redundent to me.

Yes, I find this forum is nice than most. ^_^ Even nicer than the official SD Brink forum, in my opinion. ^_^

Um, well, we can compare the game's features and based on the info. we have so far.

Even the DEVS compare it to Team Fortress 2, so why can't we, lol? :D

Something about this question always gets me the wrong way.

It is our entire nature to make comparisons between things we have tried and things we haven't in order to weigh the decision. Simple principles of deductive reasoning.

Overly dramatized, historically inaccurate, example:

Early Man kills a large rodent outside of his cave one day, takes it home, and feeds his family. The kill wasn't too hard, the food was okay, but there really wasn't enough to get full. The next day he's out walking and sees a mammoth. He's never had mammoth before, but he did just eat a little four legged furry critter and that was okay, so he decides that the mammoth is likely just as edible, but due to it's size will be more likely to feed his family right, and be more of a challenge to kill. So he takes his spear and goes to work.

Unfortunately for Early Man he was correct in the inferrence that the kill would be more of a challenge and he gets squashed before he gets to test his theory about feeding his family better.

Why? Because I was bored.

No need to be snarky now lol.

I'm sorry... it's just that... well... THIS:

I don't know.

I just... see the point in comparing a game when we've seen as much as we have, and had the opportunity to play other, similar (in some ways) titles from the same development team. Even though I haven't had hands-on experience with the game, there's a lot of game videos and media coverage out there if you look, and the company have made other titles which fit with the general concept (objective-based, multiplayer-oriented FPS). It seems reasonable, to me, for comparisons to be drawn.

So maybe we should compare a game to a book or a movie or our dog?

Why should one NOT compare anything to something else? It's the most obvious and logical thing to do.

Hm, I liked that movie, so probably I can enjoy that other movie, too.

I gave svcker Punch a chance because I liked 300 and Watchmen very much, for example. And people who liked Wolfenstein: ET and ET: Quake Wars probably give BRINK a chance if they liked those games.

Stop using logic here please this is the internet did we forget again?

Op this is the only way we can relate to a game we have not played. As stated by the above post associating other games is the only way we can draw conclusions to what this game will be like. So yes this game is just LIKE minecraft maybe a clone.

I'd prefer to compare elements of BRINK to corresponding elements in other games.

For example, the class system of BRINK rsembles a hybrid of both BC2, TF2, with a heavy perk stress a la BC2 and MW.

The point system is incredibly diverse, and is the next generation of systems like that in BC2 and MW.

Weapon customization is the next step over what MW lets you do, and as for character customization, well, that is really something that I'm sure was designed fresh for this game.

Add in all the things that aren't really comparable to other games, like dynamic objectives that are not mandatory, singleplayer that is actually multiplayer, the parkour system (which I think is a HUGE bonus to the genre, it automates a skill that doesn't need to be learned, and allows for the focus to remain where it should be), player archetypes, so you're not just customizing the visual aspect of a character, but also their actions, voice, accent, animations, etc.

I am very excited for this game.

Soooo ...
There are 3 types of dogs: Lights, Mediums, Heavies
They come in 4 classes: Curly, Scrubby, Smooth, Spiky
They have different abilities.

I think if you like Dogs, you could actually like BRINK.

Oh right, svcker Punch did that.
