Why doesn't Skyrim have a CGI trailer?

Post » Tue Oct 04, 2011 9:48 pm

CGI trailers are for games that usually svck in some way or another. They were overused in the 90's to pass a piece of dung game off as something cool. So I don't want to see any of that. Real in game footage is so much better, and the gap between the two now is closing rapidly so anyone doing CGI trailers is wasting resources.

StarCraft 2 wants a word with you.

Because it doesn't need one. Heck, I personally dont even need gameplay footage. Just a list of gameplay features and mechanics.

I think you didn't understand me, i also love ingame trailers that show how the game will look but i think it would be nice if this had a cool cinematic trailer, they have the money they have a team they could have made one that is all i am saying.

Bethesda isn't like the others and shouldn't really be pressured to be. Most other games have a lot of CGI as part of the game and showing that off is easy for them. Bethesda has a style unlike like any other though and they don't rely on cut scenes to pad their games. On top of that, they are not a corporate engine, they don't sell stock and they don't advertise too heavily. I think they would rather spend there time on the game and their money on a paid vacation for the whole company.

CGI is used mostly because the actual graphics of the game actually fails to deliver the "wow" factor and is nothing more than false advertising. You will see less and less games use CGI trailers as the in-game graphics improve to the point none is needed.

I disagree with the "games have CGI movies because the game itself is not good" argument some posted, why don't you look at the warcraft series each of them had a SGI movies and by my opinion warcraft 3 and frozen throne are one of the best rts games ive ever played, and they had an amazing story, well i guess Bethesda just don't like to make SGI movies and thats it.

almost if not all of bethesda's elder scroll games had a CGI intro and that intro is normally used as a trailer down the line.

i imagine we've already seen part of the CGI intro of skyrim, that little bit of the mural that was presented as a teaser is probably a little bit of the intro of the game.

CGI looks cool and everything but isn't a accurate view of the game. It's also a waste of time and money imo and I would prefer they spend such time and money on the actual game itself

Oh and this is not money and time wasting? http://media1.gameinformer.com/imagefeed/featured/bethesda/elderscrolls/elderscrollsvoverflow/skyrim0906-610.jpg

Like i said is not money and time issue, if they can make those they could have made a trailer, and again i am saying the should have made additional CGI trailer with ingame elements, just more CGI and less ingame.

I agree that those statues are a waste, the same as that large painting on the side of the hotel before E3. They look cool and interesting but don't improve the game therefore are a waste to me....

I don't believe I stated otherwise?

these things still play a part, advertisemant. you might not like it but advertising like this is necessary as a game can't just depend on it's own quality as far as i'd like it to be otherwise. it may seem as a waste to you because it doesn't go towards to the development of the game itself but it's necessary to raise awareness of the product.
for people that are already elder scrolls fans the marketing is obviously unnecessary as most of us are already prepared to buy the game but for people that are new to the series these advertisemant do make a change.

I know advertising is important and will have a large budget. I still wish the money was spent on improving the game though :sadvaultboy:

Just to think of how much money will be spent on advertising the game in newspaper articles, TV adverts, radio, in cinema, billboards, side of buses, through such things as those stautes mentioned by Saskia, the hotel painting etc in just America. Now think of how much more money will be spent world wide, the number must be astronomical

I do agree advertising is necesarry though..... sadly.

The whole point is whether the in-game graphics is enough to tell the story the trailer wants to convey. We are saying that Skyrim's in-game graphics is enough. Most games other than FPS and triple-A RPGs don't, that is why they use CGI.

Let me turn it the other way round. Are you saying the Skyrim trailer build using in-game graphics isn't good enough that CGI is required?

Omg i hate when people say " i prefer ingame trailer" look i get that no one is saying Skyrim shouldn't have an ingame trailer, all i am saying is that i just wanna see Skyrim CGI trailer which i think it would be pretty nice to watch it or show it to friends, i mean those movies i posted especially the warhammer one are stuck in my head even tho i didn't like the that warhammer game much but i will always remember them, that's why i want Skyrim to have CGI movie so i will always remember it and watch it or show it to friends from time to time and say " oh wow that looks really great "

I wish Disney would create an animated film.

The official Skyrim trailer is a CGI trailer. Do you want a trailer with a plot, a movie? Do you want a trailer with sweeter-looking graphics than the game offers?

I prefer it this way. CGI trailers piss me off. They're lies and orphan tears.

With trailers created using the ingame engine we get a real taste of what things will look like.

I raised this discussion once, with pretty much the same results... Ah, whatever, they know nothing, cinematic trailers rule

oh god I hate those statues with a passion, but I was told the Statues budget was independant from Skyrims development coffuers. and I thought to myself.
