Why doesn't Skyrim have a CGI trailer?

Post » Tue Oct 04, 2011 8:56 pm

there is a cgi trailer

Yeah, the announcement trailer, though if we are pulling the [censored] card today, every piece of pre released content could be defined as a CGI "Trailer" of sorts.

Pre-rendered high fidelity cinematic doesn't roll off the tongue as easily, and few people recognize the acronym of PRHFC.

The whole point of TES is player control. A CGI trailer would be out of step with the game. As far as I'm concerned TES games' very limited use of cinematics is one of their strong points, so in addition to being a waste of resources, no.

The Deus Ex one was amazing, but apparently also incredibly expensive. I guess it was worth it for that game since it was basically reviving a series with only a limited following, mostly on PC, so they couldn't assume everyone was just going to buy it.

We don't need one for Skyrim. We're already buying it right? :P

And the series fame speaks for itself.

CGI trailers are for the god awful games nobody wants to buy and Skyrim isn't one of those types. The game play footage is good enough!

edit: Deus Ex Human Revolution is the exception to this.

The Deux Ex one was absolutely incredible. But yes, it looks like something quite expensive...

Anyway... I do like these kind of trailers, but I don't really know how something like this would be for a TES game.

Ehurrr... WoW, Gears of War, Dragon Age... nobody wanted to buy them, you say...?

I wish games would only have CGI trailers if there was actual CGI content in the game. Like final fantasy has CGIcutscenes. If it never looks like the trailer in the actual game, that trailer svcks, no matter how pretty it is.

Wow, you played the game?

I have played Morrowind & Oblivion, both of which have notoriously uninspiring main quests. The factions quest lines were leagues better. Skyrim doesn't have to have an amazing story either, I'm in it for a "play however you want" appeal.

CGI trailers are great for an announcement or something. It helps portray the overall vibe of the game and teases us as to what we might expect. Otherwise, they're useless. In all honesty, I find them a little annoying. I'd much rather see the game mechanics at work, a literal preview. Especially with Skyrim, whose graphics already look crisp and high quality, a CGI trailer would be obsolete and, frankly, unwelcome.

Nah.. I'm fine without one. Just gimme some gameplay vids. Because that's why I'm buying the game. For the gameplay, not the cinematic's.

I love this trailer and can't wait for this game. But I've seen it three times. And that's two times too many

I bet if Bethesda released a CGI trailer, you all would love it. It's easy to dislike something you've haven't seen.

I think you didn't understand me, i also love ingame trailers that show how the game will look but i think it would be nice if this had a cool cinematic trailer, they have the money they have a team they could have made one that is all i am saying.

Because it doesn't need one.

Bethesda was never a fan of showing you things that aren't actually in the game.

Personally, I'd like one because it gives you a taste of what a next-gen Elder Scrolls game could look like.

That was funny :lmao:

But yeah, the teaser was a CGI trailer.

I hate that trailer. Its unoriginal and distastefully stylized. CGI trailers can be well done, but I don't think this is one of them. The visuals are well done though.

You win what? You have only proved the point that CGI trailers show nothing what the gameplay is going to be like.

Can you look at that trailer and say, yep, thats a game where you do parkour, leap into hay bales that are everywhere, magically disappear in a crowd of 5 people and do nothing but counter kill everyone?

No, but it sure as hell gets me pumped for the story and it sells.

I think people are smart enough to know the difference between a CGI trailer and actual gameplay. It's meant to get people hyped up for the game's story and lore. It tells people what kind of world the game is set in.

Then give me a gameplay trailer. I don't need, or want, a CGI trailer with only a month till launch.
