Because CGI trailer often get the people expextation the wrong way. Many CGI offer something that's not really like the game itself (like Dead Island's is quiet touching while the game isn't that emotional) or offer something that you cannot do in-game (like DA 2's that have mage swinging his staff like a sword) IMO it's better to let people know what exactly are they going to buy...

Sure they look pretty but largely CGI trailers just seem to be well constructed lies.

We don't. We have the announcement trailer, which is entirely CGI, and the gameplay trailer, which is both made from CGI [i.e. prerendered graphics] and real-time rendered graphics.

...

That sounds to me like 2 CGI trailers.

Do they look like the ones i posted? No i don't think so.

Of course not, it's a totally different game to any of those. And the Dead Island trailer was ridiculously misleading.

This is to the people saying they prefer a ingame trailer over a CGI trailer, i will say again what ive said in my previous post since you didn't read what i typed, i like ingame trailers and also CGI trailers so why don't you want both for Skyrim i bet everyone of you will love a cinematic trailer of Skyrim, i mean all of the trailers i posted are really interesting to watch, and yes the game will probably not look like that but it gets you interested in the game, i never heard of Dead Island until i watched that trailer, and i followed the forums of that game and the release and eventually i bought it, so all i am saying is it would have been a nice additional for Skyrim to have a CGI trailer.

The CGI trailer that Skyrim already has (the announcement) is already magnitudes better than all those you posted. It is also incredibly emotional -- the concepts of prophecy and destiny, of power and mythic beasts bringing about the end of the world, and of one great hero to stand up to them -- all with Max von Sydow's narration -- so good. I had heard the name "Dead Island," and it didn't interest me much. Then, when I watched the trailer, all possibility of me ever becoming interested in the game was erased. Ditto that for the other games, too.

But I must concede, in all fairness, that as a teenager I probably would have thought those videos were cool, and a huge set of gamers are teenagers (or might as well be). Flashy action sequences just don't hold my interest like they used to.

As far as people praising the Dead Island trailer for being emotional...I just thought it was ridiculous. I'm supposed to feel bad about a CGI girl in a zombie game? I don't know, zombie-themed anything has no emotional power for me. Zombies? Really?

Watch the Halo 3 CG trailers. If you thought that was the product you were getting then you were in for an unpleasant surprise.

The Dragon Age series of games did this and totally messed up my idea of what the in game graphics would look like. I would have rather seen something less flashy with in-game graphics so that I would know what to expect from the game and set my own expectations to that level. I think it's kind of deceiving to see a gorgeous CGI trailer for a graphically craptactular game.

I like that Beth decided to use only in-game footage for their trailers.

That is not the way i meant it.... i was talking about the technology, Skyrim trailer was kinda ingame footage only the icons , symbols on the wall was true CGI and the dragon opening the eye was cinematic, everything else seems exactly like ingame, i don't know i just find it weird people not to want an additional Skyrim cinematic trailer when clearly each of the trailers i posted are fun to watch to say the least.

But they aren't. What we're referring to as CGI is completely prerendered graphics.

Look you have to understand OP, you listed examples with flair, flash and generally sparkly stuff that only serves to Hype. I don't want hype, Im not going to play that CGI im playing the game, I want to see what you can do in game, not how much Hype can me laced into 2 minutes. no CGI truely reflects whats actually possible ingame. if you saw the quakecon vid unedited you'd see that live/recorded Gameplay is MORE than enough to hype folks and SHOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE GETTING.

If a Company wants to waste its cofferes be it independant or not from the game dev side on a [censored] movie than they should drop game developement and make a movie, I speak for some when I say. we don't need no stinkin overbudget CGI trailer who's only purpose is to stir people up for the time being, like drugs for example, only worthwhile for the moment not for the long run gets boring and need more to keep the same High.

I do not want.

I mean really what good is it later? to fester on the annalects of youtube to be viewed and scorned 4 years from now? no thanks.

I mean just look at the examples provided by latter advocates of CGI and look in the comments, I lost count of the amount of times people are like Wow is that the game? it looks so real! first buy!

Case and Point.

CGI-trailers are cool (especially http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgyL08nhtkw&hd=1), but the Skyrim trailer is awsome and epic just with ingame-scenes!
To me that's a good thing.

Games that use ingame for everything is best in my eyes. Cgi is cool and all I love watching the bioshock one for example.

I'm extremely impressed with the trailer we have to be honest even if it was mostly in game stuff, which is a good thing since you get to see what the game actually looks like.

CGI trailers are for games that usually svck in some way or another. They were overused in the 90's to pass a piece of dung game off as something cool. So I don't want to see any of that. Real in game footage is so much better, and the gap between the two now is closing rapidly so anyone doing CGI trailers is wasting resources.

I like CGI trailers, though they don't impact my purchase decision. They're in no way an indicator of a poor game. See Thief, or Dawn of War for examples.

Mark of Chaos, though having one of the best trailers I've ever seen, admittedly was lackluster.

Even though I don't care about CGI trailers I really long for a f***ing good CGI intro. Oblivion's was quite good.

Omg i hate when people say " i prefer ingame trailer" look i get that no one is saying Skyrim shouldn't have an ingame trailer, all i am saying is that i just wanna see Skyrim CGI trailer which i think it would be pretty nice to watch it or show it to friends, i mean those movies i posted especially the warhammer one are stuck in my head even tho i didn't like the that warhammer game much but i will always remember them, that's why i want Skyrim to have CGI movie so i will always remember it and watch it or show it to friends from time to time and say " oh wow that looks really great "

It's not that we (Or I at least) don't want a CGI Trailer (They are very nice), it's just that "In-game Trailers" reveals very more about the game and feed our thirsty for information.
So, while a CGI is a cool thing to watch one or two times (And then watch again occasionally because they are very cool), a "In-game Trailer" gives much more to the community.

Because Bethesda doesn't have to "deceive" the consumer in order to sell games as the in game footage is what really matters, and it looks amazing.
