Why doesn't Skyrim have a CGI trailer?

Post » Tue Oct 04, 2011 12:55 pm

I would really like if Skyrim would have CGI trailer, i mean i know it takes time and money to make it but why would that be a problem for Bethesda i mean just look at the actors they hired for this game, i know its not money issue, i just think it would have been pretty nice if Skyrim had a trailer like that, every big game has a cool cgi trailer just look at:

Dead Island has a really emotional trailer and because of this trailer i got interested in the game

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZqrG1bdGtg&ob=av3e

DC Universe Online has a really good and long trailer, and although i don't play this game i really like this trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7Nf-m6WGl4

Warhammer has good trailers too, this one by my opinion is the best

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5enBMSH5ghc

Assassin's Creed Revelations

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdK2g-UpreE

Deus Ex: Human Revolution has a really interesting trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoRwOux7Ofw&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PLFAFEAF4235D9E42C

Not to even mention the warcraft series.

I don't consider the Skyrim trailer to go in this category of trailers since almost everything seen there will look exactly like ingame.

Edit:I also like ingame trailers, it shows how the game will look abut i also think its really nice if Skyrim had a cinematic trailer like the ones i posted.

Nah. I'd prefer to see another gameplay trailer. It seems like a waste of resources.

I'd rather see what the game actually looks like.

No need it shows of the actual footage is good enough without anything needed to added to make it cinematic. If anything its a very good sign that they have no CGI

Because CGI trailer often get the people expextation the wrong way. Many CGI offer something that's not really like the game itself (like Dead Island's is quiet touching while the game isn't that emotional) or offer something that you cannot do in-game (like DA 2's that have mage swinging his staff like a sword) IMO it's better to let people know what exactly are they going to buy...

I'd rather see it done with the game engine personally.

Who actually likes CGI trailers? They dont even show gameplay and nobody can make any judgement of the product itself from it.

You mean a trailer of computer generated imagery, like all games are? Nah, I know what you mean, but I like it that they are giving an accurate representation of the game rather than wasting time making it look better than it is.

Ingame footage is always better than cgi, since you then know more about the game itself and can better judge its quality without actually having to buy it

Yea I would definitely prefer a gameplay trailer. CGI trailers are the worst thing in gaming. Most announcement trailers are CGI and I can't stand them. They usually show nothing of the actual game.

I have to laugh at the fantastic CGI trailers for TOR. They're great but they are completely different from the gameplay.

There's nothing wrong with cinematic videos, but for big budget first person/third person view games like Skyrim, using ingame footage is more convincing than using a cgi trailer. The cgi trailer isn't even usually done by the same team as makes the game, it shows nothing about the game to me.

Because CGI trailers are Dumb as hell, a waste of money, and reflect in no way the actual games play. and personally I feel the examples you listed are prime example of flash attempting to compensate for something lacking, crap the amount of times I face palm over TOR CGI trailers and the amount of people flipping out for them. then I see the actual game and I

other examples? Wild stars, Wow, DC online, Overstrike........

Honestly, the first trailer (not the teaser--actually, that one is CGI I think) ... I thought it WAS CGI. It was too big of a leap in quality from Oblivion. When I realized it was in-game footage, it really blew me away.

crap the amount of times I face palm over TOR CGI trailers and the amount of people flipping out for them. then I see the actual game and I

LOL. Me too. I had the opportunity to play The Old Republic not too long ago, and after about an hour, I was totally frustrated with the fact that it was just World of Warcraft set in Star Wars ... the game is just another "massively singleplayer game" ... my favorite MMO is still Ultima Online.

But, now that I know I'll never pay for or play TOR again ... those CGI trailers are pretty fun to watch just for the entertainment value.

http://www.youtube.com/user/BethesdaSoftworks#p/c/7139983F41BCED20/7/yoXFk-0NrDI. I'll admit I'm more partial to the one that game afterward with some gameplay footage, but if CGI videos are your preference you'll find that video to be a treat. :)

Couldn't agree more. I think the Dead Island trailer is a prime example. The game could never live up to the expectations set in that trailer. It was a disservice.

Personally, I'd like one because it gives you a taste of what a next-gen Elder Scrolls game could look like.

I usually associate pre-rendered trailers for games with exceptional riveting stories. TES is capable of many things, but exceptional storytelling is not one of them. It's more about crafting a believable world for you to create your own story.

My main problem with CGI trailers is they're totally a lie. Not even the Bronze Statues are as big a kick in the balls as a CGI trailer that winds up having absolutely nothing to do with the game. Dead Island is probably the biggest violator so far, with an extremely well-done trailer that suggests the game is going to be an emotional rollercoaster in everybody's favorite apocalyptic context; zombie invasion.

The actual game was Borderlands with terrible writing.

Skyrim would easily fall into this trap by no fault of it's own. As I think it's pretty obvious any CGI trailer is going to be a battle with a dragon, escalated to nonsensical proportions. A more accurate depiction of what the game has to offer might just be the hero wandering the frozen wastes for 2minutes, stumbling across a few flowers.
