Why don't my Bloodcursed Elven Arrows work?

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 3:26 pm

This may contain possible minor spoilers...

I'm shooting the sun with my Bloodcursed Elven Arrows and Auriel's Bow, but nothing is happening. Does anyone know why? Do I need to be a vampire for this to work?

You have to aim at the sun in a VERY specific spot, the sky should turn a slightly diffrent hue when are over the right area, but it can be hard to see, or get it to work at times.

I still can't seem to get it. I don't see any hue change.

shoot directly at the sun use clear skies to make the shot easier it took me forever to figure out you didn't have to compensate for arrow the falling.

I've made the skies clear and am shooting directly at the sun, still nothing is happening.

Could adding the arrows through the console not make it work?

I was wondering what platform but that was answered right there. Here are few Ideas. try reverting back an auto save or 2 if that doesn't work you might have to restart the game.

I've tried making a new character, but that also didn't work.

what have you tried doing to fix the problem so we don't recommend anything you have already done. Also when did the problem first start? (Did you download any mods after the 1.8 patch etc etc.)

Well I've tried shooting the sun and everywhere around the sun, making a new character, getting turned into a vampire, and shooting at the sun with clear skies. Not sure what else to do. I've never done this before, but I heard about it online so I'm trying to do it now. None of my mods make changes to Dawnguard except the Unofficial Dawnguard Patch (I'll try disabling it).

The bow's enchantment must be charged and you have to fully draw it. No need to compensate gravity.

Hold on. This is a pretty minor bug, but I have a similar situation to yours. I play on xbox and if I play for a while, like 2 hours straight, and I fire the arrow at the sun, it blocks out the sun. But about 15-20 seconds later, the sun starts to shine again. The effects of blocking out the sun are there, its just the sun unblocked itself. I do not know any fix for this, but I have been posting about it since dawnguard came out.

You could just go and get the arrows cursed the normal way, if you are adding the arrows through the console, what else did you add? Have you actually done the quest to get the bow?

knowing Bethesda it is likely the 1.8 patch ruined a few things, maybe this is one.

Alright, I fixed my issue. Looks like I have to progress through the main Dawnguard quest up to where I get the bow for it to work.
