Why dont people like Rex?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:08 pm

When I see Rex following me I'm just thinking "get a hat to cover up that patch of brain".

But Rex hates hats!

He's useless to me, he ran through a tripwire rigged with a grenade cluster and blew himself into dogmeat.

Plus, I like having ED-E with me, walking around towns, and random NPC's say "What the [censored] is that thing?" That makes me :lmao:

I would like to like Rex, I really would, but I like my hat.

Puppet, thats because your not playing on hardcoe, none of your companions can die,
now in hardcoe they can all die and rex goes down like a radroach.

I really like the idea of a flyin' fightin' footlocker...I'm thinking of hanging some coloured lights off him, suspend him on a cable from a roof, and use him as a mirror ball in the Kings headquarters. The elvis's will love me after that...

I'm thinking of giving Rex a try...just doesn't feel right looking at his brain though....

Dogmeat?....ahhhh, Dogmeat....a significant portion of my game time in F3 was spent keeping him alive....best asset in the game, apart from the Lincoln Repeater, that is.

ED-E's perk is usefull. Rex doesn't have 100 lockpick skill like dogmeat.

I pick ED-E.
After upgrading all the good stuff i asked him to carry were missing. Awesome.
Then it just disappeared, but with the perk on me, i cannot recruit Rex so i can't tell whether the cyborg dog is good or not.
In FO3, i got Charon, so who is dogmeat?

ED-E wins hands down. While ED-E is only useful as a fancy, floating backpack, it atleast stays put when I tell it to. On the other hand, Rex will make a beeline for swarms of Cazadors or Legion soldiers or whatever else is sure to kill the damn dog within seconds (this happens even when Rex is set to passive). I found that my greatest fear in battle was not dying but having Rex die, which is stupid! A companion should not be a liability. I sent Rex away until I am able to make the journey to The Fort for Lupa's brain.

Does anyone ever wonder why ED-E can't fly higher off the ground to avoid melee attacks? Obisdian could have even put in an option in the tactics menu for ED-E to keep high off the ground at the cost of not being able to attack. For that matter, why isn't there a retreat option for any of my companions?!

Not sure why you keep calling Rex a dog. It's a bot, plain and simple. It's like having a smaller, more useless Robo-Brain following you around.

This is sad, since i like dogs, and have always lived with them.. but my choice is ED-E (of-course, after polishing him up and pimping his colors a bit.)

ED-E is meh but rex is garbage. He dies from like a czadora then I have to reload my save. Raul is the best out of all of them. He has the best perk.

He's part robot, part dog, so at least two of my characters have to get him. And that's why playing on the PC makes playing those easier.

ED-E is nice to have for his perk while fighting nightkin. He can mule as well as anybody. That's about all I find him useful for.

Rex's hat problem is irritating. He's got about 400 hp in my game, but charges in ahead of me and gets burned down fast. Groups of Fiends cut him to ribbons. He's a bad dog.

Did you just say your companions cant die? My [censored], the only companion of mine that doesnt die is Rex.. hes the only one I could take with me through the artillery field by N. AFB.

You guys should really be playing on hardcoe, it makes the experience that much better.

Rex is nothing but a bullet/machete/stinger sponge. He's utterly useless. No settings stop him from charging headlong into mobs of enemies and dying in an instant. He lives at the Lucky 38 now.

I found Dogmeat to be a slightly less annoying version of him and I haven't tried Ed-E yet so I don't know about him.

I prefer ede because I just like it alot more. mind you in hardcoe I dont bring companions with me most places I leave em somewhere safe. On exception is I might recuruit a companion simply to act as a buller sponge for a hard mission and let em die if they die.

I don't prefer Rex over Dogmeat or the other way around. They were both suicidally inept when it comes to jumping in front of my incredibly high power sniper rifles right as I make what is going to be a sneak crit headshot.

I get my one-hit kill, but not on who I was aiming at.....

ED-E behaves himself, if only by pure dumb luck. He's just as suicidal, but he tends to hover much higher above the ground than my line of fire does.

This. I'm pretty sure I've got sneak attack criticals on Rex more than I have on actual enemies.

I love ED-E. My companion team of Boone and ED-E is great for sniping. I'm on Hard/hardcoe. I have however had to load a few times because ED-E likes to stand still when being whacked about by ghouls.

I don't even want to take Rex to the town I haven't been yet, simply because he doesn't like my 1st recon hat. He has a kinda hat on so what the hell.

I really think i got a different game than most of you.
On Very hard + hardcoe, my Rex is knocking opponents down and chewing them to death quite fast.
Hell, he's even killed a Deathclaw on his own. And in Jacobstown when you get assaulted by the nightkin, he held his own aswell.
That knockdown he does is practically a CC.

ED-E on the other hand.. i dont know if its a bug or not, but at random, neutral NPCs will attack him for no reason.

I like ED-E purely for the perk - it's definitely my fave companion perk after Boone's. I like his battle music too :) I haven't met Raul though... I was gutted to find his little shack empty. Hopefully I'll come across him later.

I ditched Rex as soon as I discovered that he automatically kills all the livestock of all the poor farmers I wander by. I try to stay in character as a good guy. Perhaps I'll give Rex another shot if I try playing a Legion character at some point, who doesn't care about ruining all the farmers.

I like Rex, especially when he guides me (Lassie style) to places with unique items like Jimmy's Well.
