Why dont people like Rex?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 4:42 am

I love the little feller, I always hear people say they hate using him or they use a Mod to turn him into Dogmeat. I liked dogmeat but Rex is DEFINATELY a lot better, IMO anyways =P. So, who here likes Rex? To be honest I could put a bullet in EDE after getting Rex.

I dont have a problem with him, but me and Arcade are travel pals, and I'm new to using companions, as F3 made me resent them, F:NV is still making it a lovable thing for me.

I think Rex looks silly. Which is inkeeping with the rest of the game, but still lol.

I like ED-E the best for some reason. He's definitely the most useless follower, but I just like having him follow me around. When I see Rex following me I'm just thinking "get a hat to cover up that patch of brain".

I'm an Ed-E fan.

I used companions in FO3 but NV has made the experience way more enjoyable, I have only used Boone as a travel pal so far (an Ed-E of course) and I'm not sick of him yet.

I'm using Ed-E because I always wanted an Eye-Bot in Fallout 3... Plus I'm more of a cat person over dogs  I did do Rex's quest though because I felt bad for him. Now he hangs out in the lucky 38 and barks happily when I come home :hugs:

I hate dogs.
Rex is just Dogmeat with a brain in a jar.
Would be a different thing if he could speak like Blood from A Boy And His Dog through telepathy or if he had a robo-voice or something.
But he's just a cyborg Dogmeat.
And I hate Dogmeat.
Loved him in Fallout 1.
Hated him in everything subsequent.

Oh, and why in the name of Norman Frempt would I want to have a dog with me?
- Oh look, cazador's, I'll just pull out my rifle and blast them from far away.
- Wait. Rex... Don't go over there. DON'T GO OVER THERE!!!
*runs off and dies*
- Ah you stupid [censored] dumb critter!!

He svcks.
Dogmeat in Fallout 1 at least knew that he svcked and steered clear from enemies that tried to attack him. (At least he did for me. But he died inside Mariposa because of the forcefields... Ian too... Then Kathy got blasted to smithereens by a minigun. My whole A-team dead in less than 5 minutes...)
But in FO2, FO3 and Robo-Dogmeat in NV all svck, their damage svck and their health svck.
There's no reason to get them since they'll just die from anything at giant radscorpion level or higher.
I just end up babysitting them.

I know some people like dogs IRL and love to have them as companions.
But I don't like dogs IRL and see no tactical choice for them in Fallout games. (I'm more of a guinea pig and cat person)

/in my opinion.

I don't prefer Rex over Dogmeat or the other way around. They were both suicidally inept when it comes to jumping in front of my incredibly high power sniper rifles right as I make what is going to be a sneak crit headshot.

I get my one-hit kill, but not on who I was aiming at.....

ED-E behaves himself, if only by pure dumb luck. He's just as suicidal, but he tends to hover much higher above the ground than my line of fire does.

I love Rex.
Sure, he does sort of have a habit of lodging himself in front of doorways I'd like to go through. I also think his common sense mode is perpetually off when he goes for enemies, but...
He... He has paws? We can paw-five. And he's all fluffy and huggable and stuff.

Okay, so... Admittedly, only certain parts of him are probably huggable. Like, just... Maybe the non-brainy part of his head, or something.
But we could still paw-five!

I prefer Ed-E over Rex. Rex's damage is pretty weak, and his HP are nothing special, plus he always gets in my way, and since he's a melee character with low health he always dies. At least Veronica has a power fist and can wear armor, specifically power armor, which makes her almost invincible sometimes. Ed-E may have low HP and be weak, but his gun or armor can be upgraded from his quest line, and he has the common sense to stay back and do long range annoyance. Him and Boone are pretty much the best pair of companions for outright damage.

Myself I rather like rex. He is great for storage and wont toss armor on the ground unlike some of the humans if they cant equip it. As for humans I like veronica for her on the road crafting.

No, Rex doesn't have long range, and he's weak, which is what I meant. Ed-E is weak, but long ranged so it doesn't particularly matter as most enemies will attack either me or Boon instead. Rex is weak, but...nothing. He's just weak, and will die in seconds from running point blank on enemies with shotguns. If there were some sort of armor you could equip him with to give him DT that would make him OK, but he cannot equip any armor.

I like Rex because he can die.

Edit: I mean he CAN'T.

Edit: Edit: I have Rex and he only gets knocked unconscious. He doesn't die in my game.

It should be noted that you can complete Rex's side quest to improve either his move speed (so he can die quicker), his attack damage (so he can do more damage before he dies), or his DT (actually useful). While I'm not sure how much the DT one improves his survivability, it's pretty much the only option that could possibly make him useful. I think I'd still pick Ed-E over him though, and I'd rather up Ed-E's damage than Rex's DT.

K I hate rex, he never shuts up, and after going thru heck getting the Legion dog's brain..it still shows his hp as 100, Idk if it's glitched or what, but man I went thru fire and brimstone trying to find his "best" brain, by that I mean as close to Dogmeat's hp as I can get. So I went and got the first 2 brains. Then tried for hours trying to get to the fort, wasn't even paying attention out of my 20 quests logged the one for HOW to get to the Fort. So I tried to cross hoover dam, then tried swimming from Camp Guardian..I DON"T recomment that lol. Course this was the 2nd day it was out, and not much info online, anyways after I got the brain, I tried all 3 and tested it out. The only one that allowed him to survive a few hits was the legions brain.

I love dogmeat, the lil guy wouldn't die for nothing. He saved my rump more times than a guy could ask for, and when you needed a gun or anything, he'd hook ya up. He even found my firelance when I couldn't. Dogmeat was the only companion I had in 3. I miss dogmeat on New vegas, and it seems lonely without him. I would buy a dlc just for him...but rather'd they put him in =(

I can't stand having ED-E following me around, it just seems like the enclave is spying on me. I like rex more then fallout 3's dogmeat tho, rex is a lot more useful then him but dogmeat from 2 was the best.

Why don't I like Rex? He randomly goes off and attacks people with hats, making people hostile.

Being a hardcoe player, the choice is fairly obvious, Ed-E.

While ED-E had his own problem of rushing off into battles...at least he's durable (he has natural DT). I must have reloaded 50 saves due to Rex getting killed within seconds of a battle before I just gave up on him and let him stay dead.

I completed his personal quest, which apparently upgrades him, then he died in my very first encounter with a tough opponent (Night Stalkers) shortly after...poor Rex is still rotting in that cave, at least the King took it well.

Dogmeat was more durable than Rex IMO, but Dogmeat also ran away never to return in my main FO3 game, he finally reappeared when I came out of Tranquility Lane, after which I locked him in my house in Megaton in fear he'd run off again.

I honestly don't really like ANY of the companions much in NV, as they start combat the moment you enter "CAUTION", Boone is a hell of a shot though. Storming Caesers's Fort was certainly a challenge.
