Why on earth were Merc suits nerfed so badly?

Post » Thu May 21, 2009 10:00 pm

So I was playing F3 today, and their Defense was worth 8-9, and I have to ask, why on earth were they nerfed to the point of oblivion? I mean, thats a fairly reasonable number for a suit of that style. Any one have a good idea why Obsidian goofed up the merc outfits?

Bethesda propably set the deadline too early :P

A mishap when changing from DR to DT system, i'd guess.

I've thought of that a fair bit...
So now I just use the GECK drop their weight to 1, then do the same with all clothing and remove all DT from them as well.
Merc suits are clothing, however for some strange reason they and others just became lighter ( but oddly so ) nerfed versions of armour.

8-9 DR in Fallout 3 isn't really that good. I think the Merc suits should've been at 3-5 DT but 1 DT is fine. It just means your going to get cut up if you face a tough enemy.

At this point, I treat 'Bethesda set an early deadline' as a fallback empty argument.

Seriously, all you have to do is look at the Leather armors DT, make the Merc suits 1-2 maybe 3 points lower, problem solved.

It's always amused me in games how cotton, wool, and thin leather skirts, bikini's, shorts and buttoned shirts seem to stop bullets. I think the clothes are fine. One can always take the +DT perks if you want clothes for looks. Or (on pc) mod them.

Personally, I don't care. They're purely cosmetic.

I agree.

In fact, 2 DT is equivalent of 20~10DR for early game.

For their weight they are not very good. I have changed the weight to 2 (down from 8) but not improved their armour value. I agree that metal or combat armour is what should have a DT rating, while leather and clothes should be cosmetic only. Recon I make 8 witha DT of 5 and 25 stealth.

If I had my way I'd drop everything below metal armor to 0 DT. Oh wait I have the PC version.

Heh heh heh...

yep. in addition those suits had also very low item hp in fallout 3, too.
after 2 or hits from a plasma rifle the suit would have been destroyed. so i'd say, there have not been nerfed at all.
merc clothes aren't armor, they are just practical clothing.
